The Michigan Wolverines advance to the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game on Sunday afternoon! They beat their bitter rival, the Michigan State Spartans, in an exciting game on Saturday by the score of 75-64. This win will improve the seeding for the Wolverines in the NCAA Tournament and may have cost the Spartans a chance at a number one seed.
It was a very well balanced effort for Michigan today. They had five players score in double figures with three players tied for the team lead with 15 points a piece. Muhammad-Ali Abudur-Rahkman, Moritz Wagner, and Zavier Simpson each put 15 up and were the main reason for the W. Duncan Robinson also played a pivotal role as he scored 13 big points off of the bench. The biggest reason for the outcome today was Michigan’s ability to get to the free throw line. They shot 33 free throws vs only 10 for Michigan State.
Head coach Tom Izzo will have to get his Michigan State team to regroup after today’s tough loss. They will have about 10 days off or so until they suit up again. That is good for rest but that is also a long time that the current FBI Investigation could have more damning material leak out. Currently, Izzo and his star player Miles Bridges are under investigation for illegal bribes and money laundering. Michigan State is hoping that nothing else breaks with this story in the media until AFTER the final whistle is blown on National Championship night. But who knows what we should expect!
