Not everyone on Hive who was on Steem may realise they also have an account on Blurt. This is another fork led by ex-Steemit marketing man . It seems to run on the same software as the Steemit site, but has a couple of little changes:
- There are no downvotes
- Transactions cost you some liquid $Blurt
The first of these is bad enough. It means people can spam, selfvote and otherwise milk it with impunity. The latter makes it less worthwhile for small accounts.
I was airdropped a few thousand $Blurt and started a power down as soon as I found out. There are limited options on where to sell it. have a pair with Bitcoin. I have sold some $Blurt for Bitcoin to buy $Hive previously I tried to do the same this week, but so far the funds have not appeared on Ionomy yet.

I was having a poke around there and saw some people using the Blurtlink account to get funds sent to Hive Engine. That may be an easier option and the fees seem low.
Update: I hear some people have had issues with this service, so proceed with caution!
The $Burt price has dropped in the last couple of weeks from about 3c to 1c, so this is not going to make much difference to me anyway.
I see some people are actually buying $Blurt to power up their accounts. Some are self-voting. Actually I could see who had voted on posts not long ago, but now I cannot. It must be possible to check the blockchain data anyway. I have done a couple of test posts, but a few cents of rewards are not worth my time.
Meanwhile, Steemit have started powering down. Of the seven million Steem they got this week 2.5m has been sent to Bittrex (I think). The $Steem price dropped a little when this happened. It will be interesting to see what happens to the rest. It will only take them four weeks to totally power down. Maybe they are desperate for cash.

My Tweet about this activity got a lot of attention.
