For some time I've been wanting to improve my knowledge of music theory. I know the basics and can find various scales and chords on the guitar, but I know my limitations. I've been playing some jazz standards with a clarinetist at the pub and I just don't know some of the chords this requires. I have to simplify them a bit.
Recently I've been trying some of the lessons by David Walliman on Youtube. Some of these are at the right level for me. I've actually paid for one of his courses about modes. If you don't know these are a set of scales that include the regular major and minor, but the others give you some different sounds to play with and they are used a lot in jazz.
This is me playing over a backing track he provided for the lesson below. I'm just trying to find my way around two different patterns for the dorian mode that are in the same position on the neck. I've not branched out into other positions just yet. I get it wrong in a few places, but I'm still finding my way. I'm playing my Benford Guitars custom Telecaster.
