Hi Steemits another newb post about what I have noticed while in this community.
I was really amazed with the effort of this community when I read about a post concerning people in Venezuela(see end of article for deets). For the first time in a long time I was finally released from the shackles of political apathy and felt like what is deemed in political terms "an active citizen". Like most people I have empathy for a lot of things concerning social policy but I am too caught up in just living in a big city to do anything.
Fortunately for me I usually do not make a habit of prostituting myself on Facebook by sharing a link and feeling good about myself . For if anyone knows about Immanuel Kant they will know this can be misconstrued as using people or a situation as a means. That is making yourself look charitable and good at the expense of the actual situation. It is for this reason the Facebook political posturing is like a fart. If you crack a fart in a room depending on who is around will depend on how it is received.
If it is your friends you will get honest responses "good one" , "that's fucking gross", "hahaha that stinks what did you eat?" but for the most part people will just think its gross. If you do the same thing in a room full of strangers they will too think it is gross and it will clear the room. Same thing with posting about politics on Facebook some of your friends might engage with you but a lot of people will think its yea whatever and not do anything it . As your political posts increase your peers will begin to get annoyed that you not making them laugh and clear the room. Furthermore you can spend a whole month constructing the perfect political Facebook post and turn it into something resembling the great orators of Churchill,Roosevelt and Obama only for someone to comment "fuck your mother" underneath . Sorry to for seeing the same joke , posted it as comment in his awesome article Are You a Philosophizer or an Opportunist?) . Thus rendering the argument into a scene from "Idocracy".However it must be said when people post a link to sign a petition this is good as it does put the wheels in motion to start the political process. If you get enough signatures in a petition there will be a discussion about the issue in Parliament (well in the UK) ,sorry my knowledge is a little vague. However this to can get lost in the Political machine.
Steemit on the other hand is like the steam that powered all sorts of machines and innovation during the Industrial era. Yesterday was the first time I felt like I was actually putting money into the hands of people who really needed it, not signing some piece of paper and watching it peter out like a silent fart.
So Steem on my friends go through Steemit find something you care about and upvote as it helps someone somewhere. Check out the article:
