Curiously enough, this post is not about food but about life. Looking at this picture of delicious cookies, I realized that two days ago I was eating Moroccan pastries with my family in France and that 48 hours later, I was having dinner with friends from different countries.
Two thoughts came to my mind:
1. My family taught me to be international
My mother's side of the family is half French and half Portugese and was living in Morocco for five generations. My grandfather was a civil engineer in there and even went down to Burkina Faso to being water to remote villages. My mum was borned in there, in Ouagadougou, at a time when there was only one paved road im the entire country, and gre up in Morocco. Like many French who lived there, her roots are and will always stay there.
Moreover, my father is American and I got the chance to travel to Morocco Spain and USA several time during my childhood.
I grew up discovering those countries, but most importantly, I was fed by my grandfather's stories about Africa. He was an amazing storyteller and I already knew I would have to leave someday to find my own stories.
Another thing that I am grateful for is that they let me leave, although it was hard for all of us, they never to keep me in France and even encouraged me to discover the world.
I am now living in Taiwan, that I ve been considering like my home for more than 4 years now and visited most of neighboring countries.
2. It s a leap of faith
I believe it will be easy to understand for you, Steemian. We are all here because we believe in something different.
It is the same for traveling and being an expatriate, the first step can be hard when you are afraid of change, but the second one will be easier and the whole experience will make you grow.
As a philosopher once said :
Many people are scared of others, that's what we've been taught to, but at the end of the day eveyone just wants to be happy.
I love travelling with my friends and family but for discovering oneself, nothing compares with traveling alone, because you actually never really get lonely and will meet a multitude of strangers.
Over the years, I have started to accumulate the stories I was looking for, I took some risks sometimes and nearly died once but I'm still here and that's my favorite story.
Somehow, those patries inspired me to write about all that. I will try to post some of my stories someday.
