Hey everyone,
It's been a while since I made a written game review and lately most of my time has gone to either school or streaming. This has also been great since I've wanted to start streaming for a long time and now I have been streaming on DLive almost everyday! I still have a lot to improve on and new things to learn but I am definitely getting there. Now for the review.
The game I am here to talk about today is Hunt: Showdown. This is a pretty new game and it is still in it's alpha state. I learned about this game by watching a video online where some streamer was trying it out. After a couple of weeks had passed I started seeing it more and more until I finally decided to get it myself and try it out.
This game was released on the 22nd of February by Crytek who are also the developers who gave us Crysis. It's a first person bounty hunting game and the bounty you are looking for is from monsters. The game can be played solo or in a duo.
When you first start the game you will not really know what is going on but luckily they have added a video tutorial to explain it all to you. You start off by recruiting a hunter. There are usually four different ones to choose from and all have different perks, equipment and weapons. Once you have chosen your hunter you can then start a game, either alone or with a team mate. In this picture you can see the hunters that you can choose from:
As you can see most of them have different weapons and equipment which can be used in the game to kill the zombies and other scary things that lurk in this 1895's fictional Louisiana.
When you are heading in to your first game you can also choose which bounty you are going after. As you can see in this next picture there are two "bosses" to choose from and also you can choose if you want to play during daytime or nighttime.
After you have chosen your mission and start the game, the first thing you will probably notice is the loading time. It takes about 10 minutes to get from "starting matchmaking" until you can actually start moving around in the game. Since this is a PVP game it can be kind of frustrating if you are unlucky and die fast in the game then you will have to wait for so long to play again. I really hope they work this one out in the future and the loading time decreases.
The game graphics are really beautiful and I love how the trees, roots and swamp looks. Here is a picture to give you a little taste of the graphics this game offers.
When you and all the other players have finally loaded into the game you can finally start looking for clues and make your way towards the boss. You have to find three different clues before you find out the location of the boss and you locate these by using a power called "Dark Sight. This power makes everything turn to black except for the clues. As you can see in this picture the clue is the thing glowing in blue.
When you reach each clue you have to activate it and this updates the map for you and your team member if you are playing duo. The clues are these weird piles of dirt and skulls on the ground that start glowing when you activate them.
On your way to all the clues there are zombies and other monsters that will attack you if you get too close. Some of them like the grunts and hellhounds are pretty easy to kill and usually die after one shot to the head. Others though like "The Hive" and "Meathead" have a lot more HP and do very much damage if they hit you. These can easily end your game if you are not careful. Ammo and health packs are also rarely scattered across the map so you have to remember to keep your eyes on those. In this next picture you can see one of the "grunts" walking towards me and you can also see me aiming to take my shot.
After you have found all three clues you finally learn the location of the boss and can start making your way to get the bounty! This location will be revealed to all the players and you have to remember to be on the lookout for others as well when you are fighting the boss. I chose to play the spider mission for the purpose of this post and got a picture of it sitting still. It usually runs around and hides in the darkest corners. I did not however succeed in killing this spider and it ended with me being eaten.
It's kind of dark but I hope you can all see the spider hanging from the roof in the picture. I really liked this game and their whole idea. It is in alpha still though and therefor you have to accept all of the glitches and bugs. With time we might get a great game.
I give this game 7/10 points and would only recommend it to experienced FPS players who are looking for a challenge.
This was it for my review this time. I hope you enjoyed it and please let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are on this game. Hope you're all having a great week so far!
Peace, Strawhat
