Tomorrow night Mikey Garcia faces Adrien Broner in a match that will definitely be career defining and a possible "fight of the year" nominee. As was the case with Ward-Kovalev and Brook-Spence the two biggest fights of the year so far. With Broner's recent losses and Mikey's inactivity, both fighters can ill-afford a loss at this point in their careers. With a win however both would easily be able to force a fight, although being the challenger, they'd be the bigger draw & possible favorite against the champion Terrance Crawford. Mikey Garcia is 36-0, 30 knockouts. Never once really being challenged, on his way to winning a 130 lb championship and now also winning the 135lb lightweight championship, in his return to the ring last year after spending two calendar years in a battle with his promoter Bob Arum. This will be his third fight since the layoff and there should be absolutely no reason to think he won't be in top condition for this bout.
Adrien "The Problem" Broner, boxings "bad boy" has yet to prove to hard-core fans that he can win a fight against this caliber of opponent. There has been a lot of talk circulating about his lack of motivation in recent bouts. Having lost his title to Marcos Maidana at the welterweight limit of 147lbs in December of 2013. He also lost a title elimination matchup to Shaun Porter in the summer of 2015. That fight was also in the welterweight division. He has since had 2 fights at a catch weight of 144 pounds which he has won both. The fighter insists that this will be the match up that will resurrect him back to "top pound for pound status & possible heir to the throne" that was vacated by Floyd Mayweather which many boxing fans thought he would fill. In Broner's defense no fighter has came close to stepping up & into that roll. Even Canelo is most likely going to be the underdog against GGG in their September 16th showdown.
This fight kicks off an unbelievable summer schedule, leading into next months massively anticipated spectacle, a bout between boxings current undisputed pound-4-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather & "The Notorious One" Conor McGregor. What could be better than that you ask? How about an encore event 3 weeks later between the before mentioned, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez & "GGG" Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin. What an amazing time to be a boxing fan, or a sports fan in general. Even if you despise the "sweet science" one can still not deny that "big fights" always provide the best atmosphere for party's, cookouts & gatherings.
So pick your gladiators, make your bets, hangout & enjoy as boxing takes center stage. It's SHOWTIME!!!
Enjoy & god bless.
