- To Power Up Steem or Not to Power Up Steem, That is The Question!
I have had the Steem Power Up Day idea in my head for a while now, but only until recently did I decide to announce my idea to see how it would be received. I was inspired by @geekgirl ’s Steem Torch initiative and its success to announce my idea to the Steem community.
Since mentioning the idea of having a Steem Power Up day, I have received mostly positive supportive comments, pledges and ideas, but the initiative has also been put to question.
What is Steem Power Up Day
First let me start off by saying that there is no magic, or anything else expected to happen on May 1st. , 2019. There is no prize for Powering up your Steem, and there is no guarantee of anything for doing so. So nothing will happen if you do Power up, and nothing will happen if you don’t. This is all voluntary with no obligations and no expectations, whether you do power up on that day or don’t power up on that day, or don’t do anything or do all of it on any particular day. There is no guarantee of financial reward, or that this could affect the price of Steem in either direction. Now we know what Steem Power Day is Not.
The Blockchain revolution successfully began with Bitcoin in 2009, and for that reason the Bitcoin Blockchain remains as one of the most successful and active chains to date. I don’t remember if it was late 2012 or early 2013, when I first heard of Bitcoin but I immediately sensed the grandness of the idea behind Bitcoin and the Blockchain. The more I learned and consumed information in regards to Bitcoin and how it worked, I sensed that this could level the playing for all humanity, making for a better place, like the internet had done with knowledge and information.
It would not be long before Bitcoin’s ideology would take it to incredible price levels later that year, and by then Bitcoin was becoming a race of having the fastest servers and the biggest mining farm. The “little guy” of the world had been squeezed out somewhat. I originally thought that the whole world would be mining Bitcoin in one form or another, but the race for faster processors led to the ASIC chip for Bitcoin mining and now only those with big and deep pockets can mine Bitcoin, it is too expensive and requires huge investment now. There are still ways to acquire Bitcoin, and you can buy it in the smallest of increments but Bitcoin mining for the average person is over and has been for a long time.
Then in the Summer of 2016 I found out about a new social media site based on blockchain technology. I was intrigued, and quickly signed up. I learned as much as I could, and quickly came to realize that this was the next Bitcoin in terms of bringing cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to the masses. I put my Bitcoin where my mouth is and invested both Bitcoin and time in the Steem Blockchain. What I came to realize is that the Steem Blockchain lets the masses of the world do mining like the Bitcoin network was supposed to do for the World until the network got hijacked by big money. With Steem, you, the user, are the mining machine. At the time,no other Blockchain let the end user actually do the “cryptographic mining” with their time and brain.
Initially Steem let users blog, comment and up vote (curate) in order to be rewarded in Steem crypto-currency coins. It was one of the first if not the first Social Media website with its own blockchain, and even built in stable coin called Steem Dollars. The founders/creators of Steem and the Steem blockchain, @dan and @ned, started a paradigm shift when they introduced this technology, and they maybe even knew that this blockchain was more revolutionary and powerful than just a blogging site.
Fastfoward to today, and the Steem Blockchain continues to allow the masses to be their own “mining machine.” If not the only one, one of the few that lets users of the World throughout do this. You create content for the Steem blockchain, and it rewards you in Steem coins. Now though, the Steem Network is evolving into a tour de force by becoming a whole crypto-ecosystem. The Steem blockchain now supports not only blogging via the traditional Steemit.com website, but you can use phone apps such as the esteem app or @partiko app. There are many more social media type apps for the Steem blockchain such as Appics and Share2Steem for Instagram. You can play games such as Super 8 Ball, an online pool game that rewards the players in Steem, playing the game is “Steem Mining.” And of course the newest and probably most successful cryptocurrency game to date, Drug wars also runs on the Steem Blockchain. There is also now Steemgigs where people trade Steem for jobs or vice versa. And there are many other “options” for mining Steem, but STEEM remains accessible to almost anybody anywhere in the World.
Let me reiterate that…. The STEEM Blockchain remains the most accessible blockchain to almost everyone in the World no matter where they are, Can any other Blockchain say that??
Therefore, for me, STEEM POWER UP DAY is a testament to my belief that the Steem Blockchain is one of the best if not the best blockchain the world currently has access to. Powering up on that day is proof that I believe in the Steem Community and its potential to make for a better World for all through the fruits of one’s own time and efforts. Steem Power Day is INVESTING in yourself!
I am Steem. WE ARE STEEM!
STEEM POWER is the PROOF!
