The Aceh Museum was founded on July 31, 1915 under the name Atjeh Museum, led by F.W.Stammeshous and inaugurated by the Dutch Civil and Military Governor General H.N.A. Swart. At the beginning, the museum building was only Rumoh Aceh.
After Indonesia's independence, the operations of the Aceh Museum were alternately managed by the Tk.II Banda Aceh Regional Government (1945-1969), the Rumpun Iskandar Muda Advisory Board (Baperis) (1970-1975), the Department of Education and Culture (1976-2002) and currently The management of the Aceh Museum is under the authority of the Aceh Provincial Government. Based on Governor's Decree Number 10 of 2002 dated February 2 2002, the status of the Aceh Museum became the Aceh Provincial Museum UPTD under the Aceh Culture and Tourism Service.
As of 2019, the Aceh Museum has a collection of 5,328 cultural objects of various types and 12,445 books of various titles containing various kinds of knowledge. Dah, gitu aja..
