Well this Tweet did not age well did it?:
Turns out “Rules for thee, not for me” aka live by the sword die by the sword has pretty much real life consequences. So when someone who you pubically dislikes says something you find offensive they should be burned at the stake and ostracized from social media. Well turns out if you make edgy pedophile jokes on Twitter those can have real-world repercussions too:
Like being fired as director of Guardians Of The Galaxy and basically shunned by Disney and leaving Twitter altogether. Who would have thought the rules apply to absolutely everyone doesn’t it James Gunn? Well, the usual suspects over at Waypoint came to his defense:
“We need to give people space to grow, and learn from their past” But wait a darn minute when PewDiePie made a misstep didn’t these same people called for blood?:
Bu-tt-t context! James Gunn just made a few harmless pedophile jokes! You see when it is someone you like or support then neither the facts for the context matters, a different social standard for different people. So get ready for a week of spin by the media: “Its okay when we do it” and “It’s not okay when you guys do it” takes. But wait:
“Why? Rape is funny” or “Pedophilia isn’t morally wrong…Why get upset about it?” or this jewel of a comment: “Or just stop being a poser and become an abortion doctor or gas a Jew. Isn’t that where the real art is?” Bu-tt-t context! People need to grow! How can anyone be this blind to their own hypocrisy? I just don’t understand. Having said that I honestly don’t like the idea of using old tweets to destroy anyone’s career. But let’s be honest here these are the rules they force on everyone else, so it is only fair that they are to be held accountable by the same standards they use. And of course the #Gamergate boogie man got resurrected from the dead:
Wouldn’t it be James Gunn’s fault for making the tweets? Patton, I think it is time to switch to none toxic crayons. Because clearly, the ones you are eating now are affecting your mental faculties. Stop blaming everyone else and try a little personal responsibility. James Gunn got himself fired. Plain and simple. Was it right to do? That’s certainly a topic for debate, but like I said early live by the sword die by the sword…
