I am very passionate about the good ´ol times of Hip Hop. Often it seems as if they have long passed, with little hope to get back on track.
For this reason, my dear steemians, let´s recap my series of
"Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems" ,
to have all of them in one post. Digging deeper in search of their music will surely feel very rewarding to you if you also enjoy that 90´s Boom Bap!
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #1
Bahamadia
She has such a unique style, a soothing voice that is alluring and yet powerful in it´s own way. Here is my favourite Track of her.
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #2
Pure Genius
They originate from Nottingham UK and only released 3 pressings. Their beat selection is superb, with samples i never heard yet and a fresh style. You can absolutely tell that this kind of rap later coined the now very popular Grime scene in the UK.
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #3
Artifacts
These guys are my favorite Crew by far. Only released 2 LP´s that are to my liking, but OH BOY ! Nothing gives me shills like they do. Jersey Rap never got better and probably never will
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #4
Lords of the Underground
When people with the pseudonyms of "Lord Jazz", "Mr. Funkyman" and "DoItAll" come together you know it´s gonna be juicy.
One of my top 5 Crews !
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #5
Masta Ace
NY Artist who now is in his 50´s. His Music shines through the beat selection, that personifies the NY cool Jazz and clever rhymes. The topics are mostly related to his growing up in a impovered surrounding, politics and often tries to educate the listener.
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #6
MF DOOM
Not really a "hidden" Gem, but a gem by every definition. This man is versatile like no other and switches up styles with no effort. He coined Rap like few did and still proving his legend status is well deserved nowadays. To be a real recognized name in this genre, you at least need one DOOM feature!
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #7
Jeru the Damaja
NY Artist who earned instant recognition with his first release in 1994. He grew up with DJ Premier from Gang Starr and is known for his rough, often amelodic beats. Being very politically involved he often puts up themes that were currently a hot topic in society.
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #8
Darc Mind
Probably the most unknown Artists of this list, on par with Pure Genius. I vibe their style so much and the voice will give you goosebumps. A pity they did not blow up as they deserved, this is some high class Hip Hop !
Forgotten Pinnacles of another Millenium - Hip Hop Hidden Gems #9
Royal Fam
A Wu-Tang branch that has all that made them that succesfull. However their style seems a bit more rough and untamed.
Rough vocals and lyricism revolving about good ol´gangstas life is definetely enjoyable and will often make you smurk.
If you liked Wu, you can´t go wrong with this crew.
Hope you enjoyed this post. These are my favourite underdogs of my favourite music genre. Please share you opinion and maybe even artists you want to see featured. Preferably ones i did not hear of yet, that always is the most thrilling to me
