Hello Steemit! I had a bit of a scare yesterday afternoon when I came home! Nova was nowhere to be found in the backyard 😪
I went out for a few hours yesterday to visit the Beach (I'll post photos about my visit to the Beach soon) and was only gone for about 4 hours. Nova always stays in the backyard when we're at work and when we go out. We've never really had any problems except the one time she dug under the fence to our neighbours yard and pulled up a few of their plants 😅.
When I arrived home I was carrying a few bags in with me and usually once I open the door I can see Nova waiting at the back door waiting to be let in. BUT yesterday, she wasn't there!
I was a bit surprised but wasn't too worried at this point in time because sometimes she's just taking a nap in the sunshine around the back of the house. So I walked to the back door and opened it. Usually at this point, Nova will come running around the corner as she hears the sliding door open BUT she was still nowhere to be seen.
I then looked down at the floor and her favourite treat in the world (dried pig ears) was still just sitting there untouched. This is when the panic started to set in and I went into to mum panic mode. I dropped my bags and ran outside. Still no Nova in sight ðŸ˜
I then made my way around the next corner of the house that is fenced off to keep Nova out of our side garden to discover the mischief she had managed to get herself into. Luckily we have another bigger, sturdier fence on the other side of our garden that kept her safe and stopped her from running out onto the road and going on an adventure.
See all the pictures below but I honestly don't know what got into her today. She decided to chew a hole through the wooden gate and squeezed herself through the narrow hole to the other side and effectively "trapped" herself there. I opened the gate and saw her face looking at me and she was just wagging her tail happy to see me. At this point, I was just relieved to see her still happy and uninjured. I checked all her paws and teeth for any injuries but she only had a few grazes on her belly from pulling herself through the hole.
I don't know how long she had been here for so luckily yesterday was an overcast and cool day so she didn't get dehyrated. I gave her some water and made sure she was okay before taking her back to the gate to let her know she was a bad dog for doing this.
We've since fixed the fence and we didn't have any issues last night or this morning. Hopefully it was just a once off for this little escape artist. I would go into a crazy, frenzy if she had actually escaped and gone missing.
As promised, photos from her semi-escape attempt. Looking guilty as hell 😆. It's just one of those moments where I wanted to laugh at her expression but I just couldn't because I was trying to teach her that what she had done was wrong.
Thanks for reading about Nova's mini adventure. Just thankful she didn't escape completely and didn't hurt herself. I suppose it's one of those moments that you look back at and laugh. Nova you silly dog!
