My last work for the HANDMADE & CRAFT DESIGN Contest sponsored by nTOPAZ- "Pysanka"
A pysanka is a traditional Easter egg in Ukraine , decorated with folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb "to write" as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.
Pysanka is a raw eggs created with the wax-resist method (batik). The designs are "written" in hot wax with a pinhead or a special stylus called a pysachok or a kistka which has a small funnel attached to hold a small amount of liquid wax.
Beeswax shred into small pieces and put it in the styluses.
Styluses heate over a small candle, until wax is melted inside.
The molten wax applied to the white egg with a writing motion.
Then the egg dyed yellow, and more wax applied.
The next- orange, then wax layer again, then red and wax layer, then purple or blue color, wax layer and black. (The dye sequence always from light to dark).
Any waxed bit of egg is not stained and remain previous color.
After the final dark color, usually brown or black, the wax remove by heating the egg over the candle and gently wiping with a dry rag the melted wax.
Thank you for watching!
