Screenshots were posted on Reddit showing the newly added "Cryptocurrency Ok" box.
Obviously Craigslist doesn't actually setup or handle any sort of money exchange. So all of the details of what Cryptocurrencies are accepted and providing deposit addresses are up to the buyer and seller. Which isn't really that big of a deal, they have to do that to some degree already (for fiat.)
Now What IS a big deal is the exposure of getting this option in front of SOOO MANY people!! It did seem a little strange that the news didn't come out some other way. But the effect of this could be a little exciting to watch regardless!!
Right now Craigslist ranks 16th in traffic for all US websites. To put this in terms of how many people visit the site:
Q: How much traffic does craigslist get?
A: More than 50 billion page views per month
-Craigslist Factsheet
Even knowing that a lot of those 'views' were from the same people coming back multiple times...this is still a ton of 'main stream people.' Most of them have likely never heard anything about cryptocurrency or perhaps some of the more negative things that were portrayed in the media.
But Now...
It's in front of them during their normal day! Even though it's just a simple checkbox, having that phrase "Cryptocurrency Ok" on something they already use and trust...adds a ton of credibility to the crypto market as a whole. On top of that, it's directly using to buy and sell things, which it's seemed cryptos in general seem to have a hard time doing. Even just a couple days ago Steam stopped accepting Bitcoin as one of their payment options (due to fees and price volatility.)
I truly hope we see the "Cryptocurrency Ok" option now being on Craigslist provide a really cheap way for widening acceptance of Digital Currencies.
