One of the biggest barriers to entry in any strategy game is the cold start.
You log in, you see a map, some numbers, and a button — and you have no idea
where to begin. We've heard your feedback, and today we're
shipping something that changes it completely.
Syndicate Protocol now has a guided onboarding flow — a step-by-step
cinematic introduction that walks every new player through their first
operation from scratch. No guesswork. No wiki required.
Here's exactly what it looks like.
The Cinematic Intro
The moment you log in for the first time, the game fades in with a
full-screen cinematic sequence. No tutorial popups. No checkbox lists.
Just the city talking to you:
"Syndicate City doesn't sleep."
"It bleeds."
"And right now — it doesn't know your name."
"That changes tonight."
Each line types out one character at a time. When the sequence finishes,
a single button appears: Begin. That's your moment to step into the city.
Step 1 — Build Your Crew
The first thing every syndicate needs is bodies. A spotlight appears on
the Crew link in the navigation bar, drawing your attention to the
recruitment office. A coach mark card tells you what you're doing and why:
"Every operation needs bodies. Head to the Recruitment office."
The rest of the screen is dimmed. There's only one place to go.
Step 2 — Sign Your First Operative
Inside the Crew page, the recruit button pulses with an amber glow.
The coach mark explains the weight of the moment:
"Every syndicate starts with one name on the roster. Head to
recruitment and sign your first operative. The city doesn't
respect empty chairs."
The moment your first crew member is signed, the flow automatically
advances to the next step — no button press needed.
Step 3 — You Need Backup
One operative isn't enough for Iron Row operations. The game knows this,
and it tells you directly:
"One operative won't cut it in Iron Row. Operations require at least
two crew members — sign one more before we move to the streets."
Same recruit button, same amber spotlight. Sign your second operative
and the flow moves on automatically.
Step 4 — Head to the Zones
With two crew members on the roster, the game shifts focus to the map.
The Zones navigation link lights up:
"Two operatives. That's enough to get started. Iron Row is where
every syndicate cuts its teeth — it's rough, it's loud, and it pays.
Head to the zones and pick your ground."
Step 5 — Choose Your Ground
On the Zones page, Iron Row is highlighted. It's the starting zone —
free to access, no HIVE required. The coach mark sets the scene:
"Iron Row is where syndicates are born. Pick a territory — it's yours
to run operations from. Don't overthink it. Every block bleeds the same."
Step 6 — Claim Your Territory
Inside Iron Row, the Anchor Yard territory is spotlighted. This is
your foothold — the ground you'll run your first operation from:
"Anchor Yard is your foothold in Iron Row. Select it and make it
yours — every operation runs through the ground you control."
The game auto-selects the territory for you so you can see exactly
what a selected territory looks like before you move on.
Step 7 — Deploy Your Crew
With a territory selected, the deployment bay opens. The crew assignment
section is spotlighted:
"A territory means nothing without bodies running it. Assign your
operatives to the deployment bay — they go in first."
Your first two crew members are automatically slotted in so you can
see the deployment bay in action.
Step 8 — Sweep the Block
The Deploy & Scan button lights up. This is the moment your crew
goes out to find available operations in the territory:
"Your crew is in position. Send them out to find the angle.
Operations don't announce themselves — you deploy, you scan,
you decide."
Step 9 — Pick Your Play
The scan returns with jobs on the table. The first operation card is
spotlighted:
"The scan came back with work on the table. Choose your operation
and commit — a bad match is a wasted run."
The game selects your first operation automatically and launches it
so you land directly in the live operation view.
Step 10 — You're In
The operation is live. The Advance Operation button pulses.
This is the last step of onboarding:
"Operation is live. Hit Advance Operation five times to push
the run — each step drains crew stamina. Clear all five and
your crew faces the boss intercept. Beat it and the payout
is yours."
From here, you're on your own. The city is watching.
How It's Built
A few things worth noting for the technically curious:
- Progress is saved to your account after every step — if you close
the browser mid-onboarding, you resume exactly where you left off - The flow never blocks you. If anything goes wrong on the backend,
the game defaults to onboarding complete and lets you play freely - On mobile, coach marks anchor above the bottom navigation. On
desktop, they position intelligently around the highlighted element
Try It
If you're a new player, the flow starts automatically the moment you
log in. If you've been around since before this update, you've already
seen most of this the hard way — respect.
