I wound up taking a day off today for one of my routine vision checks and a friend recommended I try a new clinic for a change, and his recommendation, The Presbyterian Regional Eye Hospital, Yorogo, Upper East Region.
So here I am and while waiting in line for Visual Acuity Test, I got lost in thought, wondering why a clinic of such repute seemed lacking.
No Health Insurance (private insurance available though)
One active consulting room
Long queues
Paper-based record systems (I thought we had gone past that ages ago)
And internally, who knows?
Hence my question, Are we a people first before a nation, or the nation makes us a people?
We have evolved and seen the benefits of civilization and yet it seems we believe only the government build a nation, what of service to our communities, what of advocacy for the people, what happened to helping one another.
That said, big ups to the Hive community and its members who have made it a mission to impart and impact positively on the lives of many, and yes, that’s what we need as a nation to thrive, a nation where we recognize that we the people need to help ourselves to make a change.
And please no, I’m not making any political statements, neither am I basing my write up on this clinic, my concern is how much we are losing or lacking all because we have relied on government to make a change, we should all be agents of change.
So let us all endeavor
As a software engineer, what is your contribution be to your community, it could be something as little as ICT Literacy.
You the social scientist, what’s your proposal on regional development?
The businessmen, how many people have you helped from your profits?
We all have the ability to make little changes, it could be the shoes you bought for that student that might encourage him to become the next engineer, or the proposal you presented might be taken up by an NGO, or your donations to a public eye clinic might save the sight of that poor old man living in Yorogo.
Let’s drive change, let’s be change and let’s make change.
