Sharing my post in the #WednesdayWalk community has become one of my weekly routines—a tradition I look forward to with excitement and joy, thanks to the wonderful initiative of our friend 
My journey began very early in the morning. Although we had to work, the day looked light, without any major complications. The first stop was the Sunsol Unik Hotel, where we had to submit a quote for some trench filter loads. Afterward, our plan was to head to the Valley to visit a friend’s bottling plant who needed a little support and advice.
The road to the Unik Hotel was lined with those vibrant landscapes that so characterize the island. The weather was warm, but not as stifling as it had been weeks ago, when the heat seemed to envelop everything. Even so, we know that these days it’s essential to stay well-hydrated and protected from the sun. Despite the drought that has been with us for months, the island always finds a way to show off its beauty

Mi recorrido comenzó desde bien temprano en la mañana. Aunque teníamos que trabajar, el día se presentaba ligero, sin mayores complicaciones. La primera parada era el Hotel Sunsol Unik, donde debíamos entregar un presupuesto para unas cargas de los filtros de trinchera. Después, nuestro plan era dirigirnos al Valle para visitar la planta embotelladora de un amigo que necesitaba un poco de apoyo y asesoramiento.
El camino hacia el Hotel Unik estaba lleno de esos paisajes vibrantes que tanto caracterizan a la Isla. El clima estaba cálido, pero no tan agobiante como semanas atrás, cuando el calor parecía envolverlo todo. Aun así, ya sabemos que en estos días es indispensable mantenerse bien hidratados y protegidos del sol. A pesar de la sequía que nos acompaña desde hace meses, la Isla siempre encuentra la manera de mostrarse hermosa.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed, as always. We handed over the quote and left, since we weren't scheduled to service the tank or the laundry filters that day.
Al llegar al hotel fuimos bien recibidos, como siempre. Entregamos el presupuesto y nos retiramos, ya que ese día no tocaba hacerles servicio ni al tanque ni a los filtros de lavandería.
With that first task completed, we continued on our way to the Valley, to the home of our friends who run a small bottling plant. They needed some guidance, and, as always, it was a pleasure to help.
Con esa primera tarea cumplida, continuamos nuestro recorrido hacia el Valle, a casa de nuestros amigos que tienen una pequeña planta de llenado de botellones. Ellos necesitaban orientación y, como siempre, fue un gusto poder ayudar.
As we left his house, we decided to take a walk down River Street, a place I love. Not just because of the river that runs through it—though it’s currently dry due to the severe drought affecting the entire island—but because of the enormous trees that line the entire street. Their thick trunks seem to hold decades of stories, as if each one were a silent guardian of the valley.
Al salir de su casa decidimos pasar por la calle del río, un lugar que me encanta. No solo por el río que la atraviesa —aunque ahora está seco por la fuerte sequía que azota toda la Isla— sino por los enormes árboles que bordean toda la calle. Sus troncos gruesos parecen guardar historias de décadas, como si cada uno fuera un guardián silencioso del Valle.
Since we were there, we took the opportunity to stroll through its streets and around its plaza, which is always lined with shops selling handicrafts dedicated to the Virgin. It’s an area that stays bustling all year round thanks to the devotees who visit the Basilica del Valle. They come from all over the country—many even outside of the festival season—just to pay homage to the island’s patron saint.
Ya que estábamos allí, aprovechamos para recorrer sus calles y su plaza, que siempre está rodeada de locales vendiendo artesanías alegóricas a la Virgen. Es una zona que mantiene movimiento durante todo el año gracias a los devotos que visitan la Basílica del Valle. Vienen de todas partes del país, muchos fuera de las fechas festivas, solo para rendirle honores a la patrona de la Isla.
In fact, due to the large number of parishioners who would arrive at certain times of the year, the Campo Eucarístico del Valle was created—a spacious area designed to accommodate the tens of thousands of people who could not fit inside the basilica. It is truly impressive to imagine the faith that moves so many people.
Incluso, debido a la cantidad de feligreses que llegaban en ciertas épocas, se creó el Campo Eucarístico del Valle, un espacio amplio para congregar a las decenas de miles de personas que no podían entrar en la basílica. Es impresionante imaginar la fe que mueve a tanta gente.
After exploring this beautiful place, we headed home with the satisfaction of having completed our tasks for the day and, moreover, having enjoyed a walk that holds more than just a simple story. They are living testaments to devotion, tradition, and love for our land.
