I preferred to be alone, immersed in my thoughts and my books. It was not easy for me to integrate with others, since I felt more comfortable in my own world. I found social interactions challenging, and the thought of making new friends seemed like a daunting task. However, everything changed when I saw a new classmate in the classroom. Her solitary presence reminded me of what it was like to be alone, and she urged me to take the first step. I decided to talk to him, and that decision marked the beginning of a friendship that has stood the test of time and distance.

Prefería estar sola, sumergida en mis pensamientos y en mis libros. No era fácil para mí integrarme con los demás, ya que me sentía más cómoda en mi propio mundo. Las interacciones sociales me resultaban desafiantes, y la idea de hacer nuevos amigos parecía una tarea desalentadora. Sin embargo, todo cambió cuando vi a una nueva compañera en el salón. Su presencia solitaria me hizo recordar lo que era estar sola, y me impulsó a dar el primer paso. Decidí hablarle, y esa decisión marcó el comienzo de una amistad que ha resistido la prueba del tiempo y las distancias.
From the first moment, Reysa and I became inseparable. We spent recess together, sharing laughter, secrets and our personal stories. We were a mutual refuge in an environment that often seemed indifferent. The end of the school year arrived, and with it, the uncertainty of knowing if we would still be together in the first year. We were assigned to different sections, and although the separation left us with a void, we took advantage of every break to meet, even if it was for a few minutes. That small connection was the thread that kept our friendship intact, even when the environment changed.
Desde el primer momento, Reysa y yo nos convertimos en inseparables. Pasábamos los recreos juntas, compartiendo risas, secretos y nuestras historias personales. Éramos un refugio mutuo en un entorno que, a menudo, parecía indiferente. El final del año escolar llegó, y con él, la incertidumbre de saber si seguiríamos juntas en primer año. Nos asignaron a secciones diferentes, y aunque la separación nos dejó con un vacío, aprovechábamos cada receso para encontrarnos, aunque fuera por unos minutos. Esa pequeña conexión fue el hilo que mantuvo nuestra amistad intacta, incluso cuando el entorno cambiaba.
The following school year, our paths crossed again at high school. The excitement of having Reysa close once again filled me with joy. Our friendship strengthened in this new environment, and together with two more friends, John and Gabriel (whom we call by his last name, Conde), we formed an inseparable group. Each brought something unique to the group: John with his enthusiasm, Conde with her wit, and Reysa with her ability to listen and guide. Together, we enjoyed countless unforgettable moments and created memories that we cherish to this day. We were that study group that no teacher could separate, and our unique dynamics made every day at school special. Friends are the family you choose, and in our case, that choice has been a blessing. Over the years, each of us has taken a different path. John is in Medellín, Conde in Cali, Reysa in Spain and I here, in Venezuela. Despite the geographical distance, our connection remains alive and strong through a WhatsApp group. We stay on top of each other's lives, share our joys and worries, and support each other at every stage of our lives.
El siguiente año escolar, nuestros caminos se cruzaron de nuevo en el liceo. La emoción de tener a Reysa cerca una vez más me llenó de alegría. Nuestra amistad se fortaleció en ese nuevo entorno, y junto con dos amigos más, John y Gabriel (a quien llamamos por su apellido, Conde), formamos un grupo inseparable. Cada uno aportaba algo único al grupo: John con su entusiasmo, Conde con su ingenio y Reysa con su capacidad de escuchar y guiar. Juntos, disfrutamos de innumerables momentos inolvidables y creamos recuerdos que atesoramos hasta el día de hoy. Éramos ese grupo de estudios que ningún profesor podía separar, y nuestras dinámicas únicas hicieron que cada día en el liceo fuera especial. Los amigos son la familia que uno elige, y en nuestro caso, esa elección ha sido una bendición. A lo largo de los años, cada uno de nosotros ha tomado un camino diferente. John está en Medellín, Conde en Cali, Reysa en España y yo aquí, en Venezuela. A pesar de la distancia geográfica, nuestra conexión permanece viva y fuerte a través de un grupo de WhatsApp. Nos mantenemos al tanto de nuestras vidas, compartimos nuestras alegrías y preocupaciones, y nos apoyamos mutuamente en cada etapa de nuestras vidas.
Reysa is the one who talks the most and tries to maintain order in everything. Her ability to listen and offer advice has been invaluable to me. For me, she is like my personal psychologist. During the time she was in Venezuela, she always made time to visit me, despite her busy schedule. She is my daughter's godmother, whom she adores as if she were her own daughter, even though she says she is not going to have more children.
Reysa es la que más habla y trata de mantener el orden en todo. Su habilidad para escuchar y ofrecer consejos ha sido invaluable para mí. Para mí, es como mi psicóloga personal. Durante el tiempo que estuvo en Venezuela, siempre sacaba un momento para visitarme, a pesar de sus apretadas agendas. Es la madrina de mi hija, a quien adora como si fuera su propia hija, a pesar de que dice que no va a tener más hijos.
