It is a weird public holiday in Finland today for "the ascension" which is something about forty days after Easter and finally losing the additional chocolate weight. However, this year it is a bit different since my wife is away on a work trip overseas for a few days, and we are left here to "fend for ourselves" during that time.
So we got some cake.
Since a lot of things were closed, we went into a shopping centre where most was open, had lunch, bought a few things for a home handicraft project for the both of us to do on the weekend for her room, and got a slice of cake to share.
It was a nice day, except I got a call while shopping to fix my barely working home internet connection. The call was fine, though it took a long time for him to talk through things (which was fine, but Smallsteps was bored) and I ended up having to buy a new router from them, though I got it for less than half price. Still - annoyed. The one good thing was that while they didn't have one available in my local shop, they did happen to have one in the shopping centre we were in, so I was told I could go and pick it up in ten minutes.
45 minutes waiting in a line....
Only to get to the counter with the SMS and email I had received (now an hour earlier) and be told that I needed to have ID. I rarely carry my wallet with me these days. Sure, it is "protocol" and it isn't this guy that makes the rules, but the problem I find with this is that not only do I have my phone from the same provider, to get into their app you need to be able to validate through a banking service. It is far more secure than a random drivers license. When I mentioned this, he said "perhaps one day we will have the ability" - they have the ability this day. It is 100% available without any changes, except to allow it to happen in their rule book.
I almost had them cancel the order and remake it so it could be sent to my closer store instead, but remembered that I might have put the wallet in the car, but wasn't sure. But I told the guy that if I come back, I am not going to wait another 45 minutes for this.
I had it. Waited 10 minutes...
Once this was done though, we continued on with our merry day, I went to the gym for a quick workout, and then once home again, we sang some karaoke together. In one song, Smallsteps even said, "You almost got that line in tune!" - Score!
Anyway, now the next annoying part of the day will begin, which is setting up the new router and then going through and readding the 12 million different components that need to attach to it.
At least we had cake.
