An unexpected invite came today, to accompany the neighbors to a concert in the country. I don't know the Finnish band (Arppa - folky, jazzy), but it was easy to listen to and was relaxing.
The place is an old farm area with a 100-year old mansion which has been converted into a gallery, and an old, long cow barn, that has been converted into a restaurant and cafe. It sits close to the lake, but is otherwise surrounded by and forest.
The show didn't start until 630, but we got there a few hours early to check out the art from a couple Finnish artists. Not my style at all, but to each their own. There was a single piece that was quite good, but it was so subtle I couldn't even get a decent photo of it. The house itself was more interesting than the art.
I like looking at a wide range of art and don't mind if it is not to my taste, but as long as there is some thought behind it. There were a couple different styles from the artists on display, but I am not sure what I would call the one below.
Clitoral?
This place is about 30 miles from anywhere of note, but there were a few thousand people there. They apparently have gigs a few times a week and the night before there was Eppu Normaali playing, which is an old and very popular rock band here from the 80s. Supposedly, it was packed for the event. I have seen them a couple times before and they are pretty good for a group of 70 year olds.
The venue is outdoors and it was picnic blankets and chairs, as well as standing areas and drinking tables. They had hotdogs, panini, and waffles on offer, as well as plenty of drinks. What was surprising was that despite the drinking, I didn't really see anyone that drunk, which is rare for Finns at a gig. There were also heaps of kids of different ages, and the audience itself was very broad.
It was pretty great.
I am glad that the invite came, as it was a nice relaxing evening, even if quite windy and a little cold. At least it didn't rain at all. I am hoping that this summer is going to have a few more random kinds of events in it that aren't anything too special, but are still "kind a" special because they are rare for us to do. This is a place I would definitely go to again and recommend for anyone who is looking for a pretty chill evening with some friends and music. Though of course, the feeling would have been quite different the night before with a rock band.
And the surprise invite was welcomes.
It saved me from having to start cleaning the basement.
