We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 52: Are you Talking?
For something a bit different, Let's talk Hive.
I got a comment from a friend today about the comments I get on my posts and how it is refreshing to read them, because they are coming from real people who are actually putting in some effort. At least, most are. The problem with a lot of comments on Hive these days though, is that people aren't putting in effort to even read the posts, let alone comment on them. Instead, they pick a couple points out from the start, middle, or end, and then say something inane to make it seem like they give a shit.
Are you one of these people?
Then there are those who use AI to summarise and then formulate some kind of answer, with a response that is well above their own level of understanding. AI responses are like book reports - impersonal. Stop it please, it is pathetic. And if you don't have anything personal of value to add to the conversation, why comment at all? Getting rewarded? Sure - But what if I start just adding a comment of "Add Some Personal Value To This Comment" before I vote it? Would you prefer that? Or would it be better if I just ignore any comment that I feel doesn't add enough value?
And the interesting thing is that I am quite happy to vote fun comments, as long as the people have built up some kind of rapport with me in the past. People have to remember that at least on my posts, I value authenticity, which means real people. I get that pretty much everyone does it at some level for a vote, but if you really don't care about anything else, just don't bother. Have some self-respect.
If it is not you talking, what is the point?
Technology is meant to make our lives better, and in my opinion that means improving interpersonal communication and interaction. People talking to people, not machines talking to machines. If you don't have the experience to comment well, get some.
