We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 55: Rebrand This
1. Rebrand Hive?
For some background, read this and the comments from 's post.
Yes, the name wasn't researched well when chosen.
There was even another Hive blockchain company, that was totally unassociated with this Hive blockchain. However, is a rebranding really going to do anything and is it really going to make a difference to onboarding? And then the question needs to be asked; what kinds of onboarded people would benefit Hive?
While I love the social side of Hive, I see Hive itself as more of a protocol that can be built upon and integrated with. This makes it a bit like rebranding IPv6 - Will more people use it? Maybe? I don't know, but what we really need is people to build some cool shit that can have any name it wants that will attract people to use it, and by default use Hive. No one cares about the protocol - they care about what they can do.
And we definitely don't need any more money-grabbers using AI to publish trash, stealing the work of others, and commenting absolutely useless shit.
2. What jobs?
If you were the parent of a ten year old child today, what kinds of jobs do you think they should be preparing for in fifteen years from now?
I had lunch with a friend and while we both agreed that when we were youngish, we didn't really know what we should do for a career (I still don't know), it was also a different time. Pretty much, there was still some level of "get educated and it will be okay" available, but that really doesn't cut it anymore. Education was already pretty outdated and nearly all the learning was done on the job, now it is completely irrelevant, and companies aren't willing to teach basics.
There are the trades like plumbing or electrical, but I suspect that even they are going to be severely cut, because it will become very apparent that a lot of the work isn't necessary, if standards are created to aggressively simplify the work.
3. Who Will Win?
This is for the Europeans (mostly) and of course Australians (because it is apparently European enough):
Who will win Eurovision tomorrow night?
As always, it is filled with some terrible songs, outfits and choreography - but it is always a fun watch. We will be making a bit of a night of it, as my wife will get back from the airport, we will pick up some pizzas on the way home, and then the three of us will settle in to listen to camp songs, corny jokes, and a lot of skin.
