ROUND 1, FIGHT
Let the battle of the live streams begin.
After a week of coming on Dlive and streaming the Yes Please Live Radio shows, i am now torn between which platform to choose, Dlive or Youtube live.
Who am i ?? You ask....
Well nobody special , just a bearded man who likes to drink tea and listen to music...
Here is a quick background on me and how the Radio evolved.
The Yes Please Live show is a community based show and the watchers decide the fate of the show by dropping in what tracks they want to be played and what activities we should do in the comment section (usually guessing whats in my fridge for some reason). It all started when i got a chance to do a pre-recorded radio slot once a week, so i spoke to other artists doing these shows and a lot actually had it all laid out in there DAW and recorded each clip . I tried this and instantly thought this is not going to be sustainable or natural flowing and was generally a pain in the bum. I also wanted to practice in a live sense for future shows and i knew in the long run i would be better off, so I down loaded OBS because it seemed liked a nice easy option and i started recording on there. The other artists sounded a lot smoother with their prerecorded vocal slots and i sounded nervous and sketchy but i knew deep down this would be better in the long run and they would probably eventually burn out which i didn't want for me. Getting people to send me tracks was becoming a pain in the butt and I soon realised i could just play the songs straight off the internet and my life then got a-lot easier. I started recording the shows on video and then uploaded them to Youtube, so the artists could watch me messing around while listening to the show . I started getting a lot of nice msgs off people, which was great, i was already using Youtube trying to create a community channel with featuring artists on video animations (which i don't really do anymore) for extra promo, for the community and to try create something special.
I thought to my self that normal radio is a bit out dated and doing live streams has so much more to offer with video stream, chatting capabilities and the potential of reaching listeners, so i chose Youtube and decided to go live. I started with the show 'Sound of The Underground' but soon moved back to the 'Yes Please show'. It was a bit strange at first because people in the community were like is it a radio or is it a stream, what is it and you play soundcloud on youtube, bit weird right? I knew artists/djs done sets on stream, people sent in their tracks for radio streams and artists reviewed soundcloud tracks on facebook (never through proper software) but i had never seen soundcloud/youtube/etc being played on Youtube live, if they did then they didn't have their screen display on or maybe its because i didn't venture far enough. This may seem silly but when you don't know much about computers, software etc it can be confusing at first but this was how the show evolved over the last couple of years. The show isn't very big but the youtube shows do get a good turn out, it's lots of fun and the msgs i receive after from playing different artists makes it all worth while. I do however get occasional person on not interested in the show and more interested in doing the same show but for self promotion. About a year ago I shared with one guy because they had no clue how to do it so i helped out and then they completely copied the set up and then started playing sc tracks etc on youtube. The problem isn't that they copied it, its that they go about it in a sneaky way and then try stream to the same people at the same time (like a little brother wearing the same clothes as you). It has kind of become second nature to know when ppl are fishing but i will always help people if they are polite and because you never know their true intentions(it could become something great), i believe this character shows within the show itself.
I got real busy in other areas of my life and then set up youtube live radio 24/7 to run while i was doing other things and artists would send there tracks through the yes please website and i then would put them on in hope for the channel to kick off and let the listeners come flowing in. It started of ok but soon died down. I had a few msgs from people saying non artists had come on the show and liked their music but the show never really went any further. All i ever wanted and still do is a community that works together and reaches people with their music through fun shows. A lot of community artists do the same thing, revolving around soundcloud 'EAT, SLEEP, REPOST, REPEAT, which isn't for me, but each to their own as they say and i thought i would try in different areas. I stopped the radio 24/7 as my electric bill nearly doubled and i realised the live shows were so much better and that's what i want to do. I love the people who join in and i love their music and if it wasn't for them it would be a lonely boring show.
Soooooo where does the show go next..
You Decide...
It would be a bit unfair just putting the post on here because a lot will say dlive but i will put it on facebook with a poll to the youtubers also and any other social media site. Leave comments below on what site you think i should use and why i should use it and any other relevant information and I will make a video of my decision and upload it to dlive/dtube or youtube or both with my reason.
Cheers
