A low cost Mud Fridge made from; Bamboos Sand and Jute Bags
India is once again changing the world, putting a stop to food wastage with a non-electricity fridge. This is our second focus on India; the country with so much talent and great minds...
From our last topic , we discussed how Dr.Rajah solved one of the most critical problem that faces human which is Water scarcity. He made this possible by getting clean water out of waste water through an innovative design. If you miss the post Here is a link to Dr. Rajah means of ending water scarcity in some part of India.
India wastes roughly 67 Million Tonnes of food every year. One of the major reasons behind the growing problem of food wastage is that farmers and fruit/vegetables Retailers lack proper facilities for proper storage.
But that also had been solved by a concept referred to as "The Green Fridge".
This is a design made by class 12 pupil- Dikshita Khullar, she developed a cost effective refrigerator that operates without the use of Electricity in her fight to put a stop to wastage of food.

Mainly for farmers who specialises in Vegetables and fruits, she applied the system of passive evaporation using Mud Bricks, Sand Jute and Bamboos.
Constructing two rectangular chambers with bricks (One inside the other) with space in between both of this structures she filled with sand.
The upper part of the Chamber is then covered with bamboo lid, and "Viola" the Green Fridge came to life. An amazing feats with eco friendly structures.
OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The methodology is simple, the vegetable vendors have to water the chamber every 2-hours because that’s what will keep the inside area cool...Reddit
On the average, the chamber can hold up to 6 crates of 12kg of vegetables and can keep this vegetables fresh for at least 7 days at a stretch. This amazing technology plus science costs just Rs.4000 ($62.65)!
