Pope Francisco arrived Monday evening in Chile, a visit that will last until Thursday, January 18.
After getting off the plane he met with President Michelle Bachelet. During the next three days he will celebrate mass in Santiago, the southern city of Temuco, and the northern city of Iquique. On Thursday he will go to Peru.
This will be Francisco's first visit to the South American country since he became pope in 2013. Francisco's agenda includes addressing indigenous issues and immigration.
Also, there are expected to be protests after various scandals involving members of the Catholic Church on child sexual abuse.
