No content recycling
One of the rules that I often see in Hive communities is that content recycling is a banned activity. No-one wants to see the same stuff over and over again. Ranks right up there with vote begging. So, when the community asks for a 6 month update and I post a blog every day I'm not sure how I can do this without recycling old photo's and rehashing a story I've already told.
Then again, I also know how few people actually read my Actifit blog so I might be in the clear against content reposting violation here. Plus if the hivewatchers at watching...the community told me to do this 🙂
My wife says we never do anything
Now my wife is my best friend and we do an awful lot of things together. I joke that I can't do anything without asking her permission. The real truth is that she likes my company while doing things and I enjoy her company while doing things so she always gets first chance at my time.
It is also funny that she says we never do anything or go anywhere. She also says we are broke. Personally I don't agree with that....but I've also learned to keep my thoughts on that to myself.
If I'm looking back to December and Christmas I'm going to say that a lot of things have happened from then.
January
In January my son turned 18 years old. He is still technically a child until he turns 19 in my province. However, I think 18 is close enough to an adult to say that he is mostly there. We wanted to celebrate so we went to a beautiful ski village destination called Sun Peaks. It was REALLY cold at -39C overnight but the snow was beautiful, the skiing was excellent and we have a nice dinner out to celebrate.
- Scene from the drive there
- The birthday dinner
- A picturesque ski village -- Sunpeaks.
February
In February we were told that our retirement cabin was finished and ready to go. If you have read my blog you will know that it really WASN'T finished and that there were major deficiencies. However, it still means a long road trip to Rosswood, BC. I got to spend a few nights in our new retirement home (which was totally barren) and almost froze to death when I locked myself out of the house. Still, looking back it noted a huge step forward towards our retirement plans.
- Roadsign on a 1350km road trip (each way)
- Its barren now but someday it will be beautiful
- My not so elegant bed / bedroom 😁
March
In March there was one last Spring Break for my son in his senior year of high school. Our last chance at a family vacation before both of my sons are out of school and adults. We wanted to make the best of it by going on a cruise, seeing the Bahamas and Fort Lauderdale. Plus we went to visit a cousin who recently had a baby.
- Time as a family
- Relaxing on the beach
- Dancing on the cruise
- Exploring the Bahamas
- Hitting the beach in Fort Lauderdale.
April
In April I had to visit my mother in Saskatchewan. Her health was failing and she wasn't taking her heart failure treatment seriously. As I want to spend more time with my mother before I no longer get the chance it was time to make the 1400km trip (each way) to try and convince her to take her medication so she can have a few more years.
In the end I had a good time visiting with her even though she was very weak. There were tears when I mentioned that heart failure was a death sentence it was just whether she wanted to last a few years or a few months. She decided to take her medication and recently saw a specialist. She's in her late 70's and hopefully she continues until her 80's. Currently doing better but has a long way to go.
- A quiet little town
With nothing to do except visit my mom, my sister, and my nephew.
May
Last month I turned 55. I'm a senior citizen in some places (ugh) and my body certainly tells me that I'm getting older. However I will do my very best to stay active and keep doing things.
To celebrate my birthday and my sister's as well (she's also born in May) it was time for a whale watching trip.
- A beautiful view even if we didn't see whales
- Time spent with my sister and niece (not in the picture)
- On a boat that broke down.
Now only one engine broke down but that meant the boat wasn't fast enough to find the whales. As a result we got to see sea lions and some other marine life. Got to chat with my sister and niece for a few hours while enjoying the scenery. Plus all the money was refunded so it was a beautiful day at sea for free. Great for us, not so great for the tour guide.
June and beyond.
Now I really don't know what the future will hold.
My wife is heading out to Vegas with old friends in June while I head back to Saskatchewan to check up on my mother. Sure she's doing better but the cardiologist has to repair her heart, stop it and then restart it to reset it. He thinks it is routine but my mom isn't so sure.
I'll be heading back up to Rosswood to see if the new contractor has been able to polish things up a little bit. To checkout how the trees and foliage is doing. Maybe even plant a little to make it more beautiful over time.
I'll be heading back to the Philippines to try and finish off a home there. To visit family and relax away from home.
My youngest will be heading off to University in the fall. My oldest will graduate from his third year and continue on another apprenticeship.
Then in November there will be an election in the USA and who knows what chaos that will bring.
...But life comes as God wills it. Best to just do my best with the time I'm given. Enjoy every moment with the family I have. Work through every challenge with prayer and hard work.
I hope you enjoyed reading this far and I always love getting comments.
