✦ Hi! ~ How have you been these past two weeks? - Collage & Edition in FotoJet, photos by @Tesmoforia ✦

🇺🇸 ~ Happy Needlework Monday to all my friends! I hope May was a month filled with joyful projects, creative reflection, and plenty of relaxing sewing. I really missed sharing with this community, which is one of my favorites to read. For my part, I want us to catch up little by little, and to start, for the first time in a long time, I set myself a themed project, and FINALLY it wasn’t just another one of those that ended up in my “I’ll start-continue-finish when I have time” boxes."

A few weeks ago, I went to the fabric store at the last minute to buy some fabric; I needed two different kinds, and while I was picking them out, I was chatting in the group chat I have with my BFFs; I’ll explain this part better in another post because otherwise this one would get too long, but new types of fabric have arrived in town, prices have also changed significantly, and I’ve noticed something important happening with the quality of the fibers and pigments.
✦ The winning choice was this beautiful blue star-patterned print; I assure you, it’s much prettier in person—the color is wonderful ✦
✦ It was a moderate purchase: 2 meters of blue fabric with stars—2.80 meters wide—and 2 meters of white cotton fabric, 1.40 meters wide ✦
✦ It took me two days to figure out the measurements and final pattern for this garment; I spent hours crunching numbers on the calculator because the calculations were very confusing ✦

The fabrics and cameos you see from here on out are just a small glimpse of what it was like to create a custom-made yukata. As you can see, Kamui was a very eager assistant.Speaking a bit about those days, the whole process was quite slow—it’s way too hot, there’s too much humidity in the air, and on top of that, the power outages have stretched to 5 hours a day, reaching as long as 9 hours on one occasion.
Sewing like that is really hard, guys—I mean, sweating over the fabric, without proper lighting, and waiting for the power to come back so I can use the sewing machine. The hardest part during those days was fighting off demotivation.
✦ One of the best things I took away from this project is this photo of Kamui—it really captures his personality. I just love this sweet, funny little kitten. By the way, I let him roam freely among the fabrics because he’s very well-behaved; he’s not a destructive kitten ✦
✦ People who saw me working on this and those who saw photos of the finished project have asked me if I managed to gather enough material from the experience to put together a tutorial, but I’m sorry—I didn’t. The unbearable heat, the sleepless nights, and the lack of electricity drastically cut into the time I had to achieve this goal; there just wasn’t enough time to organize everything so I could create the tutorial later ✦
✦ But in the near future, I do plan to post an updated tutorial on how to make your own yukata—at least the way I did it after watching tons of tutorials and guides by other artists | (assorted images from my Pinterest download) ✦

Working on projects against the clock is both stressful and exciting in equal measure. Personally, it’s not my favorite way to work, but sometimes the reality is that you have no choice, because circumstances don’t allow for it—it’s either adapt or fail. And of course, there’s great satisfaction when you see everything coming together correctly—beautiful, well-made, just as you dreamed—but for me, it leaves a bittersweet taste because I’m the kind of person who sews and likes to think things through calmly before sewing... so when I sew something in a rush, I have strange feelings toward the project.
It’s something I’d like to overcome because I really want to learn to sew in “emergency mode”—even if there isn’t an actual emergency—without it affecting my emotional well-being, whether it’s a project for me or for someone else. Shorter sewing times by choice would be great. Does that make sense to you?

From the time I cut out all the pieces until I finished the yukata with its obi took 4 days; I also made a medium-to-large matching tote bag, and a headdress made from the same fabric remained unfinished due to lack of time (you’ll see it soon in a separate post), in my mind and my plans, this was a multi-piece ensemble.I had to do a lot of it at night, and you can see Apollo keeping me company during those moments of pure artificial light—my eyes were tired; I’m sure that under different conditions I could do this in two days, and the thing is, I plan to make many, many more sets like this for myself, and depending on the public’s reaction in the coming weeks, I also hope to offer these custom pieces in my shop 💙 💙 💙
✦ Fortunately, I received a lot of positive feedback and compliments on my choice of color and the fit of my outfit that day at the convention ✦

Finally, I made this yukata and tote set to wear to a manga, anime, and cosplay event held in my city last week (a post about that is also on the way).☆ And as always, if you have any questions about the process or any specific part of making this type of garment, or if you want to share your opinion with me, I’d be happy to read and respond to your comments. Have a great night, everyone! ☆
