I'd like to have a word with Hillary Clinton's literature teacher from her school days, because her basic comprehension skills seem to be bizarrely miscalibrated. A more likely scenario, however, is that Clinton fully understands the subtext of 1984, and is ironically using the 'doublespeak' of big brother in the novel in order to readjust history, art and media to suit her own agenda.
To quote the novel, 'Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.' Clinton believes she controls the past, and thus the present.
I'm always open to new ideas and interpretations, and believe that referencing the sage writings of George Orwell is more important than ever. However, I simply cannot understand how one can read 1984 and come to the conclusion that Orwell was trying to convey a message that we should obey authority, who only have our bests interests at heart and never do evil things.
Try harder, Clinton.
