It was another gorgeous day in Buffalo NY. Waking up to bright sun and temperatures in the high 40s, you guessed it, The Dood took another December ride on the motorcycle. This time though, I actually had a destination.
Some of you might recall that I discovered some of those legal moonshine products last Christmas.

After enjoying Midnight Moon Apple Pie Moonshine, I started experimenting with some of the legal moonshines that were available in my area.
Needless to say, I'm hooked. My experimentation led to several delicious concoctions like Peaches and White Lightning Shine. Soooooo good!
I had read online that a lot of people were making shine recipes using Everclear grain alcohol. For those that don't know, this stuff is 190 proof, 95% alcohol. Besides being too potent to drink straight, the stuff is great for making your own shine type products. That's fine by me, can't really run a alcohol still in the middle of the city 🤣 Plus, that's illegal 🤣
A quick disclaimer before I get into this. 190 Proof grain alcohol is dangerous. It's flammable, and incredibly strong. You should never drink it straight. You should also take care when diluting it and adding flavors. You may not realize just how potent it is, until you're hammered. It doesn't take much with this stuff. I have to admit I was a little paranoid riding home with this stuff tucked away in my backpack as I rode the motorcycle. Probably not the smartest thing I'd ever done. Still, it was a nice ride 🤡
With that, I live in a college town. This stuff is illegal in Erie County. I had to drive over to the next county, Niagara County to purchase this stuff. A few years back a bunch of frat boys got alcohol poisoning in a hazing incident and one or two of them died. The county made it illegal for sale within the county. And this is why we can't have nice things! Sorry/Not sorry. These had to be some really stupid college kids! Just saying. The adults are playing responsibly here. I hope!
Anyway, I digress. My destination was a liquor store in Niagara County where the public legislators understand that you can't fix stupid!
I should have snapped a picture inside the store. They had a great selection of both legal moonshines and grain alcohols. I went with the Everclear because it's considered top shelf in its class.
Mason jars ready, peaches in natural juice, pineapple chunks in pineapple juice, and I also found some maraschino cherries in the fridge for a cherry shine. The natural spring water is to dilute the final product.
I kept it real simple, and all these came out real delicious.
Peaches and Shine
Separate the sliced peaches from the peach juice. Pour the peach juice into the mason jar, add equal amount of grain alcohol, now place the peaches back in the jar, top off with spring water to the top. I'm going to guess these peaches are somewhere between 80 and 100 proof. I took a few sips to test and they taste delicious. Can't wait for these to ferment for about a week. I'll probably sip on occasion between now and then a dilute further with a little alcohol.
Again, be careful if you try any of these recipes. They're really tasty, but REALLY STRONG, you don't realize how strong until it hits you. A few sips go right to the head!
Pineapple Shine
Same process as above. Separate pineapple from juice. Pour juice in mason jar, add equal parts grain alcohol, fill with pineapple chunks and top off with spring water.
Cherry Shine
I found some Maraschino cherries in the fridge and decided try my own cherry shine. Again I took the juice, added an equal amount of grain alcohol, and topped off with spring water.
Final Thoughts.
I've heard people add sugar to these, I hate super sweet alcohols though. On top of that, that's probably what gets people in trouble. When you make them super sweet you don't realize your getting super hammered as you gulp them down. A few sips of this stuff and you know you're drinking alcohol. It literally goes right to your head!
I'm going to guess the alcohol content of these at around 70 to 100 proof. These pack one hell of a wallop!
I'll probably take a sip or two here and there but for the most part, these will just sit for the next week or so. They're for Christmas anyways. I like to maintain a heady buzz throughout Xmas until New Years. It's the pagan in me I guess, we love our holidays! 😆 Although, I'll probably bust into one of them for the football game this Sunday. I generally don't share them, these are my private stash. It's not that I don't like sharing, I just understand how potent these are and don't want to open that can of worms with most people. I'll sip these throughout the day between Xmas eve and New Years day! That's how The Dood enjoys the holidays. Yes, I found my holiday spirit!
Again, don't try this at home! If you do, drink responsibly and have common sense. This stuff can creep up on you.
