The summer of 1967 was dubbed the "Summer of Love" in San Francisco when it became the hippie destination of the country. I'm declaring the summer of 2020 the "Summer of Boredom" for the world.
We've had the perfect summer weather-wise here in Western New York State, but with the Summer of Covid, there's just not a lot of exciting stuff to do. I suppose we make our own fun, but with everything that's going on, I'm a bit conservative with any plans I make.
For the most part, I love a crowd. Now, as a general rule, I try to avoid them. I went out with some friends on the motorcycles over the weekend, and just didn't feel like being around crowds of people. I'm usually the guy egging everyone else on, and for the first time in my life, I felt like a buzz kill. Bars and patios are open as long as you order food. It felt good to get out for a ride but I had no interest in spending $20 on a mediocre cheeseburger and overpriced beers!
I've never really been a beach person. From what I understand, they are open, so that might be an option soon.
All bike runs have been canceled. Outdoors concerts... Canceled! Fairs and festivals ... Canceled. Car shows, drag racing, boat races, motorcycle swap meets, CANCELED, CANCELED, CANCELED, & CANCELED. One concert promoter tried to throw his yearly country music jamboree and it was blocked by state troopers. More on that in a future post, I'm trying to keep this non-political so I won't comment further on that. My thoughts on forced closures are coming soon though.

It's weird because there is always camping. As many of you know I love to camp all summer. The motorcycle I use for my camping adventures needs some repairs and broke down about a month before the warm weather arrived. I suppose I could take the car, but it's just not the same for me. Funny, because Covid19 would have been one more obstacle in that cross country trip I was planning to take too. It's obvious, that just wasn't supposed to happen. I'm really glad I decided to cancel that because regardless of the current situation I probably would have still gone. I know a couple of other YouTubers like Itchy Boots are still doing long distance riding regardless of Covid19. It probably would have been interesting to see how the rest of the country is reacting to all this first hand as I traveled though.
So I'm trying to get myself back in blogging mode and trying to figure out what I want to write about over the "Summer of Boredom". I don't lead a super exciting life, to begin with, and with all the fun stuff I love to do being canceled, I'm trying to figure out what direction I'm taking for some subject matter.
For the most part I'm spending this summer taking some short rides on the motorcycle, and sitting around the house playing guitar.
What are you doing to stay entertained over the Summer of Boredom? Got any exciting stories to share? Are you going out and doing stuff, or mostly staying home?
