A few years ago I was fortunate enough to travel China, and of course one must visit the Great Wall! However me and my traveling companion like to get off the beaten path and couldn’t really be bothered with the swarms of tourists at the section which is easily accessible hence the Gubeikou Great Wall.
This section has never been reconstructed. It is somewhat dilapidated but retains its original beauty and structure. It is difficult to access, and some of the climbs are certainly a little scary with barriers long rusted away and bamboo railings rotten.
Stretching along mountainous terrain for about 25 miles (40 kilometers), there are 172 watchtowers, 14 beacon towers, 16 passes, 3 water passes, 3 barbicans, and 6 fortresses along it.
Broken, crumbling and isolated this section cries adventure and will really showcase the vast beauty of this amazing wonder!
