Another day where I spend a couple of hours clearing branches. Im progressing far enough that I’m now pulling briers/brambles/blackberry plants which are sprawling all over the place after many years of unchecked growth.
As the green material on the branches has had more than a year of breaking down, nettles decided to feast on the bonus nutrients. This actually makes life a little easier for me, because when I pull out the branches to ahead of mulching them, I end up pulling out lots of nettle roots as well.
I would like to turn this area into a sheltered veg garden, and I really don’t want the nettles and briars taking over again, so the more boots I can remove as I go, the better!
Sometimes, progress is difficult to see; gardening can be a lot like fitness in that way.
I started today with this…
And finished with this…
On close inspection you can see I’ve found what remains of the wire fence, a mangled & tangled combination of sheep wire and barbed wire that effectively rules out using power tools for clearing this mess.
It’s quite gratifying to see the progress on the ground, and feel the work done by the muscles, at the end of each day.
Unfortunately, the furry overlord does not seem to be as happy with my work as I was
After all that, it was time to hop in the car for 240km to head back to herself for a few days.
