Our off grid washing machine can be run on a single solar panel in peak sunlight. This saves us on our energy bill and eliminates the need for a trip to the laundromat, which saves us gas in the car and time.
Now we can use water from any source such as rain water or from our well. We use our own homemade soap which saves us even more and is chemical free.
Just for proof I took the washing machine, which only weighs 23 pounds, over to my off grid electronics shop. There are no power lines or grid tie connections anywhere near my electronics shop. There are four 200 watt solar panels and 8 golf cart batteries providing my off grid power to the electronics shop and my wood shop.
We hand pour water into the washing machine to cover the clothes and turn on the wash cycle for two minutes. This machine is so strong that you do not have to run it very long at one time. Then we let the clothes soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. Another wash cycle and then we drain the water.
The water drains through gravity so this is yet another savings.
The clothes go straight into the spin side of the washing machine. You do not have to squeeze them or anything. Just toss them in and press in the plastic cover.
The spin cycle uses only 240 watts of solar power but it is also very efficient. After 6 minutes the clothes come out as dry as with a larger machine.
We love our new off grid solar powered washing machine. Especially now that we are in the tiny house and the mobile home is winterized. We would not have had a way to wash our clothes at home during the winter months without this machine.
You can find one here: http://amzn.to/2yCTki9 for under $100. All the RV community raves about this machine. The reviews are pretty awesome.
