You can restore old, sulfated lead acid batteries, including boat and car batteries, solar batteries and others. I will show you how to do this using a simple car relay and some basic electronic parts.
Battery restored by pulsed energy
Now the idea behind this method of restoring old batteries is to use high voltage spikes to break up the sulfation on the battery plates. Basically sulfation is the occurrence of tiny crystals forming on the plates. These crystals block the blow of energy into and out of the battery plates (very simplified).
By pulsing the battery plates with high voltage spikes, you can break up the crystals. The form of energy we are using in this project actually can convert the lead sulfate crystals back into their original chemistry.
If you condition a battery with this method, you can actually gain more energy out of the battery than it originally had off the store shelves. This can be possible because a lead acid battery is sulfating even on the shelf. Any time the battery is not being constantly used, it is losing a little bit of its life and usable energy.
By restoring the battery, you can actually increase the usable energy inside the battery.
