Part of becoming self sufficient is to provide all of our own food needs. This includes processing our own food as much as possible. And processing our own food also means that it is healthier for us. We know what goes into our food.
We are striving to become self sufficient and fully off the grid on a budget. We live on an 18 acre homestead and try to provide all of our own food by hunting, fishing, raising chickens and planting vegetables. But we also process our own pasta, hamburgers, sausages - and - ice cream.
In this day and age their is a lot of artificial junk in our food. Ice cream is one of the worst things you can buy these days unless you buy the more expensive stuff.
On our homestead we make our own ice cream using all natural ingredients. It is healthier for us and there is nothing artificial in our ice cream. And it is also cheaper.
I have a large hand crank ice cream maker I have used through the years but it is a lot of hard work and, unless you make larger batches, it is not worth the expense.
We recently bought the Donvier ice cream maker at a garage sale and we love it. With this we have all natural homemade ice cream in minutes.
