Good day my creative friends,
Time to share with you my next entry, you can still catch up with the previous prompts and share your drawings here in the community. Today the drawing prompts that we need to work on are the following:
WHALE
RAINCOAT
STARS
This wonderful winter week 2022 drawing challenge requires us to use the three drawing prompts in one entry. One of the goals is to start that wonderful feeling about this season.
My drawing is a young whale who is very excited to go outside. He wants to show his friends his nice and bright raincoat he received as a gift. The snow has started to fall creating a nice winter scene perfect for wearing a raincoat.
Here are some of the progress photos so you have an idea on how I made my drawing:
I started with the shape of a whale. This gray color might also be the color that I will use instead of the usual blue that I use when I draw whales. I am thinking the fins on the bottom would make a nice pair of feet as I am envisioning my character to walk.
The first draft above worked out fine on my first attempt which made me feel good about finishing this entry. It is now time to add some texture on the body of the whale and give it some definition and dimension. I used the brush, crayon to achieve that motley effect. It is darker on the dorsal side and lighter on the face and ventral side. The eye is also looking good especially the emotion it conveys when you look at it. Placing the pupil on different locations will result to different emotions. I think that the emotion on the eyes of the whale is giving me that excited and or curious look as I place the pupil in the middle going towards the right of the whale. Very interesting and nice trick to do.
Now, it is time to create the raincoat which is quite challenging as I needed to work with layers of shapes. The raincoat needs to be there because this is one of the three prompts that I am working on for this second entry to the Wonderful Winter Week drawing challenge. I chose this shade of green to give it that bright and vibrant look to as the whale is already looking dull and dark. The third prompt is stars. I had been debating whether to put them on the sky or not. Finally I decided I would put them on the raincoat instead of putting them on the sky as I am thinking about adding some falling snow in the background later.
The blue or purple sky is not working well with the color of the whale so I chose this shade of red instead. Here I added a tree, some snow flakes floating and some ice as finishing touches.
It was fun and challenging working on this particular entry. I am happy with the final look hope you like it too. If you want to participate in this drawing challenge I provided the prompts below. Hope to see your entries soon.
