Spring 2012 we learned there was a community garden not too far from our rental place. We 'found' it on our way to see our (new) family doctor whose office is right next to the community garden. How cool right?
We looked for information how to plant on this garden and was delighted to learn that it was for free to plant and to harvest, although some of the raised beds were marked 'paid garden' which means the gardener paid to use the raised bed and public are not to harvest theirs.
The fee for a paid garden wasn't much, only $25 per bed. We thought it was a really great idea for those who don't have backyard at their homes or aren't able to use the backyard on their rental places.
We loved taking our littles to the community gardens although we never picked any veggies from there. There were tables nearby where we could have quick lunch while enjoying the garden view.
Looking at other families with their littles tending the garden was also nice. We really should teach them young of where foods come from, of gardening, of sustainable living.
This garden wasn't fenced back then, everyone was very much free to check out whatever was available to pick freely. Today though, it has chain link fence, well not today, it has been with fence for 2 years now, as some naughty people stole tools and whatnot from the garden 😳 There are also new apartments built right next to the garden, so I guess the fence is also needed for that reason.
We dont live near the garden now and the last time we checked, they painted the raised beds and made them nicer. There is also a pathway for wheelchair now, super cool!
Thanks for looking!
