Currently, I facing a major financial challenge since I lost my job and has been struggling to survive with no means of income. I have had to cut back on essential like groceries and utilities to make ends meet. With my wife only earning income from her small business, we are barely managing to keep up with the high cost of living in my country.
Despite these difficulties, I was trying to remain hopeful and exploring every medium I can to find new earning opportunities even online. But something unexpected happened to me in January this year. I woke up one night with a sharp pain on the left side of my lower back that hurts badly. Since then, I have been dealing with chronic pain even after visiting multiple medical center and meeting with different doctors.
I was later referred to a specialist hospital which requires a substantial amount of money to undergo the necessary diagnosis and treatment that may be done. However, I do not have the financial mean to afford the specialist care I desperately need. Then, I thought about putting my property on sale to get the funds for medical treatment and start a new business with whatever that may remain after the medical expenses are covered.
I went ahead and posted the property for sale on my WhatsApp status and Facebook. It's a plot of land with three bedrooms bungalow uncompleted located in a fast developing residential area. The next day I received a message from someone who knows me and my family very well, someone I have worked for in the past when I bought the plot of land. He was a signee to the sales agreement for the land.
When he called me, my first thought was that he wanted to dissuade me from selling the property because he knew how much it means to me and my family. I was perhaps thinking he might decided to help me financially to some extent after hearing about my predicament. But after listening to what I have to say he showed no much concern about my health situation and financial challenges, and instead he began negotiating to buy the property from me.
I was so shocked for what I heard from him. This is someone I regarded as a mentor and a father figure who I thought Loved me genuinely because I worked for him like a son, and we shared a deep bond during the time I was working for him. Because he's a land speculator who knew the property value he was eager to take advantage of my desperation to push me into selling out the property at a cheaper price. Well, I told him I would get back to him after consulting with my family before making a final decision.
As I left him, I started thinking about how people can shift so quickly when they see an opportunity to profit from your vulnerability. People who you think they loved you may not truly actually care about you. They are acting like they love you because of what they are gaining from you, but when you have problem that's when you truly know who truly loved you and genuinely cares about your well-being.
This experience taught me that there are people who only loves with benefits and when that benefits is no longer there they become something else. I would never believe it if anyone had told me that this man I regarded as a mentor and father would want to buy my property instead of giving me moral support or whatsoever during this difficult time of my life.
Truly you can never know who genuinely loves you until you have a real problem that reveal who they are. This life is indeed deep.
