Hello again!
Often the wind here makes for a chilly day no matter how much the sun shines.
Itโs usually still nice in the greenhouse, but once you head outside and that strong breeze hits you, youโre chilly again. The curse of the sea I suppose.
No matter, I still enjoyed the day and stopped every time I passed by these tulips to enjoy them! Such beauties!
As I said in a previous post, I collected more dandelion for dehydrating. What a beautiful and under appreciated flower these are!
Just a big bowl of sunshine.

Some were giant!
So fluffy and full.
๐
I placed them in layers in the dehydrator, making sure not to clump or overlap them and let them dry out for a couple hours on a lower temperature.
The results were fantastic!
They dried perfectly, and now I can use them when I need them, or when I have more time.
For tinctures and infused oils itโs best to use dry materials, to reduce the risk of mould and such, so these will be perfect!
Yarrow grows in great quantities here as well, plus many kinds of berries, so my dehydrator will be the workhorse of the homestead this year, making sure everything is preserved so I can save it for later.
Freezing blueberries is best for flavour and later use, but even with those, Iโll end up dehydrating many of them as well, since relying on freezers isnโt always a great option in a place prone to losing power for long times during winter storms.
The upside to the winter storms is that itโs winter, so often you can save your frozen foods by simply putting them outside in the ice or snow should the power go!
Hurricanes in the fall, spring and summer not so much, but these are less common.
Itโs iceberg season now, hopefully some big ones will make their way into the bay for easy viewing.
If I wanted to, I could drive to Twillingate to get a good view of them passing by, but thatโs not very close and gas is outrageously expensive right now.
Another cool thing Iโve mentioned to you all is capelin season. Which is coming up soon!
Each year the capelin โrollโ in on the shorelines of the island, basically millions of small fish wash up on the beaches to spawn. Itโs quite the amazing sight to see and Iโm excited to share some details with you all when it happens! Should be great fun!
Anyhoo, hereโs some memes for you!
Much love to you all!
Take care!! ๐
