A few weeks ago, a new cat suddenly appeared on our balcony out of nowhere. The moment she arrived, she started meowing loudly, as if she completely owned the place. It felt a little strange because most cats usually take some time to get comfortable around new people and unfamiliar spaces before acting so confidently. But this cat behaved as though she already knew this balcony, knew there would be food here, and had every right to demand it immediately.
कुछ हफ्ते पहले, एक नई बिल्ली अचानक हमारी बालकनी में कहीं से आ गई। आते ही वह ज़ोर-ज़ोर से म्याऊँ करने लगी, जैसे वह इस जगह की मालकिन हो। यह मुझे थोड़ा अजीब लगा क्योंकि आमतौर पर बिल्लियाँ नए लोगों और नई जगहों के साथ सहज होने में थोड़ा समय लेती हैं। लेकिन यह बिल्ली ऐसे व्यवहार कर रही थी जैसे उसे पहले से पता हो कि यहाँ उसे खाना मिलने वाला है और उसे उसे माँगने का पूरा हक हो।
I gave her whatever food was left. She ate without any hesitation and then casually walked to the left side of the balcony, where the sunlight was falling, and lay down comfortably in the sun. Watching her rest there made me feel like she must have been genuinely hungry and was finally a little relieved after eating.
जो थोड़ा बहुत खाना बचा हुआ था, उसे दे दिया। उसने बिना किसी झिझक के खाना खाया और फिर आराम से बालकनी के बाईं तरफ धूप वाली जगह पर जाकर लेट गई। उसे धूप में आराम करते हुए देखकर मुझे लगा कि शायद वह सच में बहुत भूखी थी और खाना मिलने के बाद अब उसे थोड़ी राहत मिली थी। कुछ देर तक वह बिल्कुल शांत और सुकून में दिख रही थी, आँखें आधी बंद, जैसे पेट भरने के बाद चैन मिला हो।
But the funniest part happened around ten minutes later when she came back again. This time, she sat there with the same confidence and expectation, as if she was completely certain that I would somehow produce more food for her. Unfortunately, I had already given her everything that was left, so there was nothing more to offer. Even then, she continued sitting there, staring at me with the funniest expression on her face.
लेकिन सबसे मज़ेदार बात लगभग दस मिनट बाद हुई, जब वह फिर से वापस आ गई। इस बार भी वह उसी आत्मविश्वास और उम्मीद के साथ वहाँ बैठ गई, जैसे उसे पूरा भरोसा हो कि मैं उसके लिए और खाना लेकर आने वाली हूँ। लेकिन मेरे पास देने के लिए कुछ भी नहीं बचा था क्योंकि जो था, मैं पहले ही दे चुकी थी। फिर भी वह वहीं बैठी रही और लगातार मुझे देखती रही।
The entire situation felt hilarious because she looked genuinely annoyed that there was no more food available. Her expression almost seemed to say, “What do you mean there’s nothing left? That’s impossible. Go find more food immediately, human.” The way she sat there looking irritated and demanding was so funny that I couldn’t resist taking pictures of her.
पूरी बात इसलिए और भी मज़ेदार लग रही थी क्योंकि उसके चेहरे पर ऐसा भाव था जैसे उसे यकीन ही न हो कि खाना खत्म हो सकता है। ऐसा लग रहा था जैसे वह कह रही हो, “क्या मतलब खाना खत्म हो गया? ऐसा कैसे हो सकता है? जाओ और कुछ लेकर आओ, इंसान।” उसका गुस्से वाला और हक जताने वाला अंदाज़ इतना मज़ेदार था कि मैं उसकी तस्वीरें लिए बिना रह ही नहीं पाई।
