An ideology is a set of beliefs or ideas that govern the thinking and behaviour of people. There are many ideas that are being promulgated throughout the world today via social media, schools, politics and entertainment. A few of them might be catchy to start with but as believers we have one question to ask ourselves – Will it be biblical? Is it in line with God's Word? I had a lot of emotion for this topic because I had to understand that what is accepted in the world is not accepted by God.
It is correct to say that the word of God should rule our thoughts and decisions, as it is taught in the Bible. In Romans 12:2, the Bible says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This verse is a reminder to Christians to not adopt every popular belief in the world. Rather, we should let God's Word transform our thinking and our behavior.
I am familiar with an incident that made me understand this subject better. Many years ago, many of the people around me thought that success in life must be achieved through pride, lying and displaying wealth. I almost thought so because I noticed so many people getting fame and respect because of those. I once felt bad to try to live as a Christian a quiet life and live a good life. However, once I heard the word of God and read the scriptures, I came to understand that wicked ideas of the world can eventually lead a person away from him and the person may not realize it!
The Bible tells us in Colossians 2:8, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” I was very blessed to be able to read this scripture which opened my eyes a lot. I knew that there were ideas out there that people celebrate that weren't spiritually safe. Certain beliefs can lead to immorality, pride, hatred, selfishness, and/or rebellion against God's commands.
My view as a Christian is that we should do an in-depth study of all ideologies, drawing on the Bible. If an ideology is against love, holiness, humility, truth and submission to God, then it's not biblical. Always, Jesus Christ is the perfect example of what we should think and do. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
Finally, on this subject, I realized that there will be many ideas and beliefs in the world but God's word is the last truth. I learned that sometimes, I am different from others, but it is better to be different according to God's plan than one who follows false ideas which can kill the soul. I pray to God to keep guiding my heart and mind to never pick up any worldly thoughts over His thoughts.
