A huge plus to living and working in Thailand is that the tropical beaches are never far from home, and local travel companies offer promotions almost every week.
Phuket is either a 12 hour drive or 75 minute flight. It worked out to be both cheaper and quicker to fly.
Staying near the south of the island, Freedom Beach wasn't far. I had never been there before and although it got quite busy, especially along the southern sandy corner of the beach, it was a different world from up above. I took off from a quiet spot and... well you can see from the video.
The water looked a lot nicer from the sky, but to be honest, there were no complaints while I was swimming. Soft sand cover the sea floor across most parts, but there were some good snorkeling rocks off to the side.Boats set the scene nicely and even offered visitors day trips out to some of the local islands. Since it was my first time at Freedom Beach I was happy enough to spend the day there instead of visiting somewhere else- perhaps next time.
The only access to the beach was by a small footpath or forest track, alternatively the boats that offered day trips would ferry people back and forth from nearby resorts.
Later on at the end of the day, most of the boats left- full with people returning to their resorts. They did return through the evening but anyone who stayed late had the enjoyable walk back through a dark forest.
If you are ever in Phuket, be sure to visit this peaceful beach, its amazing.
