I got into building drones a few years ago as a hobby. I have found that it is one of the most fun hobbies that also forces a person to learn intricate things about many types of engineering.
Drones can be used for a variety of purposes, In the picture above I am building a racing drone that is used obviously for racing but can also be used to get dynamic footage of things.
The above image is of an autonomous surveying drone that I built for a surveying company. These types of drones can create 3d maps of terrain by flying a grid like pattern over the terrain and taking pictures at certain intervals. They can also be used for farms and determining if certain crops are healthy or if they are getting enough water.
As seen in the above picture another skill needed for building drones is soldering. Soldering is crucial to master if a person wants to build or fix anything with drones, even if the drone is prebuilt, many times soldering is required to fix it.
Learning to design things properly is crucial to building drones and also model aircraft as shown by the above picture.
Lastly I learned how to build a 3d printer and design and 3d print things while I was learning to build drones.
All of these skills are necessary for learning to work with drones and are great skills to have in life. I believe drone building should be incorporated in every school in America, if people truly want to fix the problem of the lack of STEM programs this would help tremendously.
Thank you for your time and patience, let me know in the comments what you think about drones!
