As usual, the front of the Merdeka Palace will be crowded with people giving speeches and wearing black. Everyone is dressed in black, but they are not mourning. Who is grieving? Who has died, and why are they gathered there?
Yes... to mourn for justice that remains dead to this day. Justice demanded by the people as citizens for tragedies involving human rights violations. Twenty-seven years after the Talangsari tragedy in Lampung, no one who should be held responsible has been arrested. It is as if the lives of civilians are not that important. Those in power suddenly become blind and deaf when it comes to demands for justice for human rights violations involving state officials at that time.
The people dressed in black took turns giving speeches to make the visitors open their eyes and ears wide to the fact that justice is still silent.
And as usual, among the crowd of justice fighters, who are increasingly sought after by young people and students, was Ibu Sumarsih, the initiator of the weekly Thursday afternoon protest called KAMISAN. Over time, her once fresh body now looked increasingly frail. Her hair shone white in the glare of the five o'clock afternoon sun, but the sparkle in her eyes and her enthusiasm never wavered. This was the struggle of a mother for her child, who was also a victim of human rights violations during the 1998 protests.
KAMISAN is one of thousands of ways to preserve the memory of the collapse of justice. When I left my home in Ciputat, it was raining heavily, and I braved the rain on my motorcycle to go to KAMISAN. Who would have thought that shortly after I arrived and sat down, the sky in front of the Palace opened up and the sun shone warmly. It was as if it were a sign that God approved of our steps. Steps in search of justice. This was my second KAMISAN; I hope there will be many more KAMISAN events that I can attend.
May justice find its own way. Thank you for reading my writing. See you in my next post.
Hi, I am the child of the universe, I like to read books with various genres. I was born in the city of batik but can't draw batik yet. I want to be a novelist, but my works are only short poems that are included in anthology books.
