Memories of TTFPP:
TTFPP just stand for third trimester field practical program which is mandatory for the students of the university of Development Studies. It is a fun but mixed feeling experience. As you get to spend 1 month 2 weeks in a community without electricity.
Ghana is a wonderful place to stay. The peace, the love and family is so wonderful. I am currently writing a project proposal for a community in Nangun Nayili, a small community in Karaga. Transportation to Nangun Nayili can undoubtedly be said to be the most comfortable journey as this picture below will tell you. That’s the bus I took to the district town called Karaga. You can imagine what we will use to goto the community if thats our transportation to the district capital.
Life in Nangun Nayili.
Its a wonderful place to live with harsh weather conditions. When the rains start coming, it doesn’t really want to stop. Same as the sun. It rises around 6 am and sets around 6 pm . 12 hours of harsh sun scourging your brains. Upon all these harsh conditions, its really nice staying in such a community where you can virtually make no expenses as nothing is sold here. Hihi, funny right? You are thinking about how they survive if nothing is sold here. They actually visit the District town to trade. Its a typical farming community and I have been sent there to help them?
Im just a student, what can I possible do to change their lives. All I am to do is get a community profile and submit it to the school authorities but I wish I could do more as the community profile contains a project proposal for Shea butter processing plant.
Water crisis at Nangun Nayili; though there are boreholes in the community, they are not enough. How can two boreholes serve a community of about 2000 population? Its impossible. Nevertheless, they manage to survive day in day out. Nangun Nayili is considered a city as there are far more deprived communities around the area.
Some of The Things We did In The community:
Staying in the community is overwhelmingly pleasant not for someone who has lived his whole live in a town where you get youghurt and those nice sweet things to eat. One of the activities that marvelled me on how it is performed in the community is the flooring of a new building. Is so nice and promotes cordial relationship in the community. When you are flooring your house, the whole community comes to help and they use wood to slap the floor to harden it. They add cow dung as an aggregate to combine the floor. As they are flooring the place, the men in the community support the women by organising music and drums for them. It was such an incredible site. But you can enjoy some pictures of the activity
An old woman plastering her own house as we were taking data. We stopped to help her though but she insisted we continued.
As we were going for data to complete our community profile. Population census survey
To be continued
