When I'm asked about relocation, I've never been one to jump at the idea, even as a child. While other kids dream of traveling abroad and starting a new life, I've always preferred the thought of building a successful life in Nigeria and traveling the world for holidays.
To me, it makes more sense to hustle and build wealth here, where I can enjoy the fruits of my labor, rather than starting from scratch in a foreign land. I've seen many people relocate, only to return home disillusioned. They often leave behind well-paying jobs, sell their properties, and struggle to make ends meet in a new country. I've always wondered why they wouldn't just stay and build a life here, where they already have a foundation.
When all other kids are saying they want to travel out, relocate, and leave Nigeria, it has never freaked me out. I always said I will rather get rich in Nigeria and travel there for holidays, instead of going there to work and hustle and be sending money home. No matter how we say our country is bad, people are still making it here, and if people are making it here, I will surely make it here too and travel all over for enjoyment and holidays. That has always been my thought and my wish.
We've seen many people who relocate and come back home because it's not easy. Many people will leave their well-paying jobs, sell their properties, just to get money to travel out, when you're already okay in your country. I always ask, why are they even relocating when you're already okay here? There's a young guy in my area who has a big restaurant, his mother passed it down to him. In fact, many people, especially young guys of his age, are always envious of him and want to be like him. He's very okay, but eventually, I heard he has relocated. I was like, how? What could be the reason? Why not just go there for holidays if you really wish to travel out?
And most of the work our people do there is caregiver, nanny, cleaner, mortuary security, etc., and pretty work like that. You can imagine a banker, manager in Nigeria resigning just to go there and start a new life and start doing a cleaning job. It's somehow. For me, I prefer staying here and hustling, getting rich, and going there for holidays. I'd rather be a big fish in a small pond than start from scratch in a foreign land.
What's even more concerning is that many of those who relocate and send money back home to support their families often don't invest it wisely. There are even many instances where those who go abroad and send money home to their families to help them build a house didn't build any house for them. On getting home, there's nothing to show for it, and they're back to zero. It's like they've worked hard for nothing. This further solidifies my decision to build a life here in Nigeria, where I can see the fruits of my labor and invest in my future.
