While the usual Monster Hunters used to be Nintendo's other successful third-party partnered IP, that changed when Capcom decided to make the franchise open to all platforms after the release of Monster Hunter World. Eventually, that would become their most successful franchise, selling way past 10 million.
But Capcom didn't want to strain their relationship with Nintendo, since World couldn't possibly run on the Switch, so they've released Rise, released for both the Switch and PC, with the more focus geared towards the gameplay with compromised visual quality.
Or so they thought, because it seems reports are coming out that Capcom is finally releasing it for the other major platforms. Wouldn't be a shock, since time limited exclusives are a thing these days and seeing the success of the Monster Hunter franchise, Capcom wouldn't want to miss out on the bigger money train.
Sales Do Count
Monster Hunter Rise sold 11 million units to this date, not counting the sales of the recently released expansion, Sunbreak. With such a resounding success, especially after World selling even twice more of that number, with Iceborne expansion for that selling 9.2 million.
This is a pretty meteoric success for a franchise that has been doing pretty well just on the Nintendo handhelds alone, like the DS and 3DS. The last game for the 3DS came out in 2015, with an ultimate edition released for the Switch in 2017. One thing was pretty obviously telling, and that would be that the developers were finding ways to expand on the series, but even more so, taking a far more ambitious project by introducing the series to broader audiences in 2018.
Each new game has consistently maintained their quality. Just another way that Capcom is finally owning up to the fact that their developers have crazy talent and their IPs having amazing potential. This publisher has been on a roll for 4 years now, here's hoping they don't trip over. I also support the notion of every Monster Hunter becoming available to all platforms.
Good Source
The source of this speculation came from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who's been pretty reliable as of late. He has stated that by next year, the port of the game on other major systems will be released. With also the game being part of Game Pass by then.
The rumor does also state that the release will be announced in the Game's Award this December. Followed with a release in January, and then the subsequent one of Sunbreak in July. For the new systems, the upcoming port will have 4K updated visuals and 3D audio added into. But, if one thing could also be said, I hope this doesn't give incentive to jack up price either.
