Hello Steemian friends,
Tasty Tuesday's, more like Coughing Tuesday!
We have both not been feeling entirely 100% over the weekend. Becca thinks that her immune system is constantly being attacked as she works almost every day with little kids, and lets face it, toddlers and young children carry germs around with them everywhere! However, Sam is feeling worse for wear than Becca at the moment, with a sore throat and a dry painful cough.
Sam is a true believer in Lemsip, a concoction of paracetamol and other medical ingredients in a powdered form that you mix with hot water in a mug/cup. It does work well, for Sam at least, for Becca it sometimes does and sometimes doesn't. Anyway, the story here is that we have run out of our Lemsip stock and have not been able to find it here in the pharmacies in Bangkok, or anything similar yet. So, early this morning Becca remembered that her dad, who lives in the mountains in Ethiopia at an altitude reaching 3,300 metres to 4,700 metres, has a habit of making a vitamin C drink every morning to keep his throat, chest and lungs healthy and strong. Becca made this drink for Sam in the hopes that it would help him cure his painful cough. The ingredients her dad uses are quite simple and she was able to make it in a similar way, especially as we had bought back some Ethiopian natural honey from our last trip there over Christmas.
She used:
- 1 small orange
- 1 lime
- 2 heaped teaspoons Ethiopian honey
- 1 thumb sized piece of ginger
- Hot water
The process of making it takes no longer 5 minutes. First you boil the water, then juice the orange and lime together and pour into a mug/cup. Next, peel and grate the ginger into the mug/cup and add the honey. Pour the hot water into the mug/cup and stir to mix it all up! Mmmmmm! Sam found it quite soothing as the citrus and the fiery heat from the ginger cut through the itchiness of the cough and the honey warms the throat. We will see if this will help him get better!
At last, the warm cup of goodness!
Stay Classy Steemians!
