The temperatures in Wellington have dropped a few degrees over the last couple of days, back to pretty much where you would expect them to be at this time of year.
So I had another attempt at running my usual 10km circuit.
The difference was amazing.
It was 20 degrees Celsius when I went out in the late afternoon, so about 5-10 degrees cooler than my last run. I got into my stride pretty quickly (a bit too quickly as it turned out) and hammered my way down to the waterfront.
I didn’t think I had been drinking all that much during the day, but I must have because for the rest of the run, I was running from toilet to toilet. Thankfully they are nicely spaced at just the right distance for my bladder, when it is having an off day.
I did the first 10kms and felt really good. My legs were fine, my lungs were mostly fine (I stressed them a bit early on), so I hit the second circuit feeling really good.
The second time around was still visiting the loo every time I passed one, but apart from that my body was moving like a well-oiled machine. I considered a third circuit, but I was running out of time, and there was a lot I needed to get done at home still.
So I came home still feeling like I had plenty left in my legs, which was a good feeling to have.
My pace was pretty quick (for me) and I’m happy to be able to run that pace for 20 kms and still feel good afterwards. I remember at the beginning of the year, I couldn’t even run 20kms, or run at 6 min/km at all. Now it is a comfortable thing to do.
So much has changed over the last year for me. It has been an amazing ride (or run as the case may be).
