Hi Steem,
So I've been rather addicted to the hole cryptosphere, and have been bringing the topic up where ever I can! Especially as the price has been flying bye the hour!
But this has led me to a strange conclusion, Australians just don't have to care. Our economy kicks ass, what do i care about bitcoin??
So as I keep trying to find people in real life whom have knowledge of bitcoin, everyday Oz's have no clue what bitcoin is! My brother is extremely tech savvy he has always loved his games, I remember him buying and us playing interstate 76' back in 96-99 this is pretty early for Australian internet in rural NSW, but we did manage to rack up $1200 worth of downloads in our first month. Parents were not impressed and had no idea how or what 280 megabits was, but the internet company was very kind and let it slide informing us that yes playing games is "downloading", so my brother quickly derived some manner of bypassing there data logging system so we had unlimited data/hours for a while.
Anyway I was so overly confident that my brother would be at least aware of bitcoin, if not mining it, he's running 6 computers right now I'm pretty sure. So I bring the topic up just bitcoin, and eventually mining. What bitcoin?, that still around he recalls people mining it back 13 thats about it. This blew me away, sister in law, no clue, best friend is also tech savvy as hell no clue what it is.
Undeterred I kept bringing it up, bars, even in a nightclub(ya it wasnt happening anyway mayaswell put the nail in the coffin with "so bitcoin") and nobody had heard of it at all. I probably talked to 25-30 people about it, everyone was interested but honestly admitted absolutely no knowledge of blockchains, cryptos, coins, nothing!
This will bring us to the question of why???, Well Australia has had it pretty good economically, we didn't have to brexit, our housing bubble wasn't there cause we cant get sub-prime mortgage, our banks are regulated on fractional reserve lending, so our money has stayed somewhat stable. I wont lie we have some ups and downs down here, but we have a strong economy, and have had "A fortunate life"(awesome book, definatly worth reading as it gives a great idea of the australian attitude when faced with adversity) . So I think this has left us somewhat despondent to developments, global fiscal developments. But not that alone, we feel more trust for our government I feel, and maybe even a bit of pity for it?, Its always floundering around not getting a lot done, it couldn't possible be capable of actual conspiracy style espionage! Plus I really don't fear a Australian economic collapse anytime, and no real reason to hide my money from my government perhaps this has led to less than huge adoption rates in Australia.
What are your thoughts?
Spread the word, and talk to people about cryptos and get people talking.
Thanks
